SummaryWhen platelets are required, in the face of hemorrhage, fresh whole ACD blood should be used.In the absence of oligemia platelets are best provided in concentrates. ABO‐ and Rh‐compatible blood is collected into plastic bags containing standard ACD3. The blood is spun at approximately 275 × g for 30 min. The platelet rich plasma is extracted into another plastic bag4containing 30 cm3additional ACD. This PRP is spun at 1300 × g for 30 min and a creamy sediment of platelets will be seen. The plasma is carefully decanted leaving a few ml for resuspension of the platelets. With gentle kneading of the bag the platelets are easily resuspended.The platelet concentrate can then be transfused through a standard blood administration set. Several concentrates may be conveniently pooled in one bag.RésuméEn cas d'hémorragie, il faut utiliser du sang complet ACD frais.S'il n'y a pas d'oligémie, les plaquettes peuvent être utilisées sous forme concentrée. Gruppengleiches Blut wird in Kunststoffbeutel abgenommen, die Standard ACD‐Lösung enthalten. Das Blut wird während 30 Minuten bei ca. 275 ×g zentrifugiert. Das plättchenreiche Plasma wird in einen weiteren Kunststoffbeutel abgepreßt, der zusätzlich 30 ml ACD‐Lösung enthält. Das plättchenreiche Plasma wird bei 1300 ×g während 30 Minuten zentrifugiert, wobei sich ein rahmiges Plättchensediment absetzt. Das überstehende Plasma wird bis auf wenige ml abgepreßt, die für die Resuspension der Plättchen benötigt werden. Durch leichtes Drücken der Beutel gelingt es, die Plättchen zu resuspendieren.Das Plättchenkonzentrat kann durch ein Standard‐Transfusionsbesteck verabreicht werden. Es gelingt ohne weiteres eine

SummaryA method is described for the preparation of purified plasminogen from Precipitate II, a waste fraction obtained in the preparation of immunoglobulin G from extracts of human placentas. The physicochemical characteristics of this material are similar to plasminogen prepared from outdated venous blood. The product is low in heme and free of prothrombin, thrombin and thromboplastin. The placental preparation may be heated 10 h at 60°C with only slight loss of activity and can be activated spontaneously or by the addition of purified urokinase. The product has passed established tests for sterility, pyrogenicity, animal safety and identity. The separation and purification of plasminogen from a placental fraction confirms the practical availability of the potentially useful thrombolytic agent.RésuméOn décrit une méthode pour la préparation de plasminogènes purifiés à partir du précipité II, une fraction appauvrie obtenue dans la préparation des immunoglobulines G à partir d'extraits de placentas humains. Les caractéristiques physicochimiques de cette substance sont semblables au plasminogène préparé à partir de sang veineux périmé. Le produit est faible en hème, ne contient pas de prothrombine, de thrombine et de thromboplastine. La préparation placentaire peut être réchauffée 10 heures à 60° et ceci ne provoque qu'une très faible perte d'activité; en outre elle peut être activée soit spontanément, soit après addition d'urokinase purifiée. Le produit a passé au crible des tests de stérilité, de pyrogénie, d'innocuité sur l'animal et de reproductibilité. La séparation et la purification de plasminogène à partir d'une fraction placentaire confirme l'utilité pratique de cet agent thrombolytique éventuellement utilisable.ZusammenfassungEs wird eine Methode zur Gewinnung von gereinigtem Plasminogen aus Präzipitat II, einer bei der Gewinnung von Immunglobulin G aus menschlichen Plazentarextrakten anfallenden Abfallfraktion beschrieben. Die physikochemischen Daten dieser Fraktion entsprechen denjenigen von Plasminogen, welches aus ausdatiertem Venenblut gewonnen wurde. Das Präparat weist einen geringen Hämgehalt auf; es ist frei von Prothrombin, Thrombin und Thromboplastin. Die Plazentarpräparation erträgt eine lOstündige Erwärmung auf 60 °C ohne nennenswerten Aktivitätsschwund. Es kann spontan oder durch Zusatz von Urokinase aktiviert werden. Das Präparat entspricht den üblichen Anforderungen an Sterilität, Pyrogenfreiheit, Toxinfreiheit und Identität. SummaryI, i, and Tjaantigens have been demonstrated on several human tissue culture cell lines by means of the mixed agglutination reaction and a mixed antiglobulin reaction using anti‐β1C to detect fixation of complement by sensitized tissue cells. The I antigen, but not the Tjaantigen, was found on cultured cells from other primates. Differences in these antigens between human cell lines were not found.RésuméLes antigènes I, i et Tjaont été mis en évidence au niveau de plusieurs lignées cellulaires provenant de culture de tissus humains par la technique de l'agglutination mélangée et par la réaction à l'antiglobuline mélangée utilisant un serum anti‐β1C permettant la mise en évidence du complément fixé sur les cellules tissulaires sensibilisées. L'antigène I, au contraire de l'antigène Tja, a été également trouvé sur des cellules cultivées provenant d'autres primates. SummaryBantu blood samples of group A, when tested for agglutination withDolichosanti‐A1reagent, do not show the sharp differentiation into Aland A2that is found in specimens from Caucasians.They may he classified as A1, reacting strongly withDolichosreagent; an intermediate group reacting weakly; and two groups that do not react — A2and a weak form named Abantu. None of these subgroups is rare.Intermediates, though they have mean A scores lying between A1and A2, have higher mean agglutination titres againstUlexanti‐H than do A2samples. The mean H level of intermediates, in fact, does not differ significantly from that of O cells. Bantu bloods of all ABO groups have far higher mean H levels againstUlexreagent than do Caucasian samples of corresponding group.The A bantu group shows an A3pattern of agglutination with potent anti‐A reagents and with O serum, but there is no A substance in the secretor salivas examined and anti‐A1. active at room temperature, is regularly present in the serum.RésuméDes échantillons de sang de Bantous de groupe A lorsqu'ils sont testés avec un réactif anti‐A1provenant deDolichosne démontrent pas la différenciation nette entre des échantillons A1et A2ainsi qu'on le trouve chez des échantillons de Caucasiens. SummaryA blood group survey has been undertaken on 444 Latvians who recently migrated to Australia. Low frequencies of the O and A2genes and a high frequency of the M gene were found. Only 13.3% of the subjects were D‐negative, but the significance of this observation is not known.RésuméUne étude de groupe sanguin a été entreprise chez 444 Latvians qui ont émigré récemment en Australie. SummaryIn some hemoblastoses the immunoelectrophorograms show an altered picture of alpha1‐lipoprotein which in the first stage manifests itself as decreased electrophoretic mobility, in the second stage as a significant reduction of the precipitation line of decreased mobility as a result of its lowered concentration. The results show the highest frequency of the phenomenon in severe states of acute leukemia, chronic myeloid leukemia and Hodgkin disease; retothelo‐ and lymphosarcoma groups are less convincing. The mechanism of the origin of this phenomenon which was found to be deepened by the incubation of serum for 48 h at 37°C is being further studied.RésuméDans certaines hémoblastoses, l'immuno‐électrophorégramme démontre l'image altérée des alpha1‐lipoprotéines qui, dans un premier temps, se manifestent par une mobilité électrophorétique diminuée et, dans un second temps, par une réduction significative de la ligne de précipitation avec une mobilité diminuée comme si c'était le résultat de la concentration abaissée. Les résultats démontrent la très grande fréquence de ce phénomène dans les états graves de leucémie aiguë, de leucémie chronique myeloïde et de maladie de Hodgkin. Les résultats obtenus dans les retothelo‐ et les lymphosarcomes sont moins évidents. Le mécanisme de l'origine de ce phénomène qui a été trouvé comme étant atténué par l'incubation du sérum pendant 48 h à 37° sera étudié ultérieurement.ZusammenfassungBei einigen Hämoblastosen findet man im Immunoelektrophoresdiagramm Veränderungen der Alpha1‐Lipoproteine. Diese zeigen zunächst eine verminderte elektrophoretische Beweglichkeit; in schwereren Fällen ist die Präzipitationslinie zufolge einer Konzentrationsminderung dieser Proteine abgeschwächt. Dieses Phänomen ist am häufigsten bei schweren akuten Leukämien, chronischen Leukämien und Hodgkinschen Lymphogranulomatosen. Bei Retothel‐ und Lymphosarkomen ist das Phänomen weniger ausgeprägt. SummaryThe dye crystal violet, incorporated into the CPD 3 solution in quantity of 125 mg for 500 ml of blood, maintains its trypanocidal activity against T. cruzy, after 24 h of contact with the parasites in the blood at +4°C. The dye, used in this way, does not affect the viability of the red cells, which is kept within the minimum requirements of the N.I.H. for 22 days of maintenance in the blood bank ice box.RésuméLe colorant cristal violet incorporé dans une solution de CPD 3 en une quantité de 125 mg par 500 ml de sang, maintient son activité trypanocide contre »T. cruzy«, après 24 h de contact avec les parasites dans le sang à +4° C.
