摘要:
Abstract.Serial studies were made of the membranes of the erythrocytes and the vesicles shed during storage of blood in polyvinyl chloride containers for 35 days in citrate‐phosphate‐dextrose‐adenine anticoagulant. Special precautions were taken to eliminate artifacts created by contaminating leukocytes, platelets and red blood cell ghosts. A total of 15.6% of the cholesterol and 5.2% of the phospholipids of the membranes was lost with no gross change in the gel electrophoretic patterns. The quantity of vesicles found in the supernatant plasma increased during storage and their membranes were characterized by the absence of spectrin, ankyrin, and periodic acid Schiff bands 2 and 3. The ratio of lipids to protein in the vesicles increased as they accumulated perhaps reflecting a rearrangement of the erythrocyte membrane constituents during prolonged maintenance a

摘要:
Abstract.Using a solid‐phase radioimmunoassay for IgM rheumatoid factor, increased levels were found in 24% or 82 patients with haemophilia A, in 4 of 11 patients with haemophilia B, in 2 of 11 patients with haemophilia A with inhibitors and in 4 of 12 with von Willebrand's disease. The levels of rheumatoid factor increased significantly (p<0.02) after factor VIII concentrate or cryoprecipitate transfusions. No clinical or transfusional side effects could be attributed in these patients in relation to the presence of rheumatoid facto

摘要:
Abstract.A patient with Sézary syndrome refractory to cytotoxic agents underwent leukapheresis on the Aminco continuous flow centrifuge. Five procedures were performed over a 15‐day period. A total of 6.9 × 109cells were removed. The patient's skin lesions and lymphadenopathy regressed.Repeated removal of the buffy coat by leukapheresis has not resulted in thrombocytopenia. It is concluded that cytapheresis may be effective in this clinical condition even when the peripheral leukocyte count is nor

摘要:
Abstract.Anti‐Zwaantibodies can induce a Glanzmann‐like platelet dysfunction in normal Zwa‐positive platelets. Although a normal shape change and release reaction was always recorded in response to adenosine diphosphate and collagen, the aggregation on these inducers could be completely inhibited by anti‐Zwaantibodies. Analogous to the platelets from patients with Glanzmann's thrombasthenia, normal platelets sensitized with anti‐Zwadid not associate with fibrinogen upon exposure to adenosine diphosphate. Our data indicate that the binding site for fibrinogen is closely associated with the Zwa‐antigenic determinants on the platelet membrane glycoproteins and thus with glycoprotein IIIa which is known t

Abstract.A new low‐incidence red cell antigen (Milne) has been detected. The antigen is inherited as an autosomal dominant and is not controlled by MNSs, Kell, Duffy, or Se. Anti‐Milne is not uncommon and is often found in sera containing antibodies to other low‐frequency ant

摘要:
Abstract.A semi‐automated system for determining the ABO group and Rh type of blood samples has been developed using a commercially available automated microplate (ELISA) reader and a microcomputer. Optimization of serologic, measurement and interpretation parameters was accomplished without significantly changing an existing manual procedure. The first pass noninterpretation rate of this system in the laboratory prior to field trials is 7.1%. A commercial system of this type should be cost‐effective as a primary instrument for small to medium sized blood centers and transfusion servi
