Summary.The reliability of the complement (C') fixation technique with platelets in HL‐A typing was studied by parallel platelet and Iymphocytotoxie typings of 1098 Scandinavians. With good typing sera the reproducibilities of the two techniques were equal and higher than 99.7%. The following HL‐A antigens was demonstrated on platelets by means of C'‐fixing (C'F) iso‐antibodies: HL‐A1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9. Ba*, ILN*, FJH, and BB. The corresponding antibodies were used in the platelet typing of between 20 and 525 unrelated Scandinavians and the results were compared with those obtained by means of Iymphocytotoxic typing. Summary.A high incidence (37 out of 188) of anti‐IA cold agglutinins was found in the sera of indigenous New Guineans living at Minj (alt. 1,600‐1,800 m) in the Western Highlands District of New Guinea. Anti‐IA did not occur in three other populations tested, although these possessed a high incidence of anti‐I antibodies. The earlier findings concerning the incidence of specificity of cold haemagglutinins in New Guinea are reviewed and it is suggested that they may be induced by different agents, probably of a parasitic nature, in different localities. Summary.The electrophoretic mobility of cat erythrocytes has been determined and compared to the mobility of erythrocytes from some other animal species. The cellular mobility decreases by 53 to 70% on treatment with neuraminidase andincreaseswith Pronase treatment of cells from normal cats by 18 to 36% andincreasesby about 18% in the case of cells from cats with spontaneous tumours (mammary and tongue carcinoma). Summary.Ox erythrocytes of different rattle have been shown to fall into two categories with respect to their membrane protein. The total ghost protein solubilised by a butanol extraction precipitates over a certain pH range: this range, the extent of the precipitation and the effect of ionic strength differ in the two categories. The pH at which the protein precipitates is correlated with the sialie acid content, which differs in the two groups.

Summary.The justification, brief description and development stages of a system of automatically controlled large‐scale plasma protein fractionation is presented. In this process a continuous stream of plasma and its precipitated fractions are maintained in circumstances of maximum safeguard whilst being subjected to closely controlled manipulation of the five standard variables of organic solvent precipitation.
