Abstract.H activity can be dissociated from human erythrocyte membrane glycoproteins prepared from OMM or ONN erythrocytes utilizingPhaseolus vulgarisphytohemagglutinin coupled to Sepharose 4B or by precipitation of the glycoproteins with soluble phytohemagglutinin. The three glycoprotein components of the erythrocyte membrane, as resolved by sodium dodecyl sulfate‐polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, bind specifically to phytohemagglutinin. Although such glycoproteins no longer exhibit H activity, they do retain M or N activity. H activity can be recovered in a fraction that does not bind to phytohemagglutinin coupled to Sepharose or to soluble phytohemagglutinin, contains no detectable glycoprotein components, and binds toUlexlectin coupled to Sepharos

Abstract.Solutions of stabilized 5 and 25% Normal Serum Albumin (Human) fractionated from plasma, placentas, and blends of these sources were subjected to repeated heatings for 120 h at 56 °C, interspersed with storage for 48 h at 4°C. Disc electrophoretic analyses showed that heating some solutions produced a reversible dimerization of the albumin related to the source, protein concentration, and number of heatings. Cellulose acetate electrophoresis showed that repeated heating produced a reduction in the amount of albumin with the formation of a component with a mobility slower than that of albumin. Abstract.Studies are reported on the Lexantigen‐antibody system which serologically distinguish it from Leaand Leb. The essential characteristic of anti‐Lexis that it divides cord cells, which typically are Le(a–b–) in two classes, approximately 90% Le(a–b–x+) and 10% Le(a–b–x–). All infants and adults, regardless of secretor status, whose genotype includes theLegene are Lex‐positive and all typele/lesubjects are Lex‐negative. Lex‐inhibiting activity is found in saliva, serum and amniotic fluid of Lewis‐positive individuals. Wide ranges in the ratios of the titers of Lea/Lex, Leb/Lex, and Lec/Lexsubstances indicate that Lexdoes not correspond with any of the three other Lewis specificities. Abstract.Maternal sera were titrated after 2‐mercaptoethanol treatment for anti‐A and anti‐B agglutinations by the saline and the anti‐globulin methods; the results were expressed in titration scores. Each case was graded into mercaptoethanol‐stable antibody (MESA) grade 1: A and B mothers with compatible infants; 2: mothers with unaffected incompatible infants; 3: mothers with mild hemolytic disease of the infant, and 4: mothers with severe hemolytic disease of the infant. 925 cases were submitted for the ABO incompatibility tests in 2 years; the babies' sequelae were reported in 131 ABO‐incompatible cases. Abstract.The frequencies of 18 HL‐A antigens were studied among the Japanese population in Japan.
