Summary.Using the direct antiglobulin consumption test the leucocytes and platelets of 50 patients suffering from disseminated malignant disease have been tested for the presence of a coating gamma globulin. There was a positive incidence of approximately 50%. In 15 control normal subjects no positive results were obtained.No relationship was found between the presence of the globulin and either the type of neoplasm, the amount of radiation or the amount of transfusion.Elution experiments carried out failed to establish whether the globulin has antibody properties or specificity.A comparison of different methods of antiglobulin consumption suggests that this test is not reliable for the quantitative assessment of fixed antibody globulin.

Summary.The application of the PGM system of human red cells in paternity cases was studied with the following conclusions:1The type determination is reliable and simple. All reagents are easily available.2The characters are fully developed at birth, and are in all probability constant throughout life. Disease does not seem to influence the type determination. Blood transfusions may, however, possibly change the PGM pattern temporarily.3The characters resist unfavourable storing conditions within practical limits.4No exceptions from the rules of inheritance have till now been observed.5In Norway 14.4% of falsely alleged fathers may be excluded. The confidence of exclusions is of the magnitude 99%. With non‐exclusions, the paternity index may give valuable information of probability of paternity.6In 562 paternity cases with 752 men, 55 men were excluded by the PGM system.
