Abstract.Normal human granulocyte alloantigens were found on chronic myelogenous, acute myeloblastic leukemia cells, and a cell line of chronic myeloblastic origin (K562). Antigens were detected by human antisera positive for normal peripheral blood granulocytes but devoid of HLA activity. Very few acute lymphoblastic leukemia cells reacted positively, and none of the chronic lymphocytic leukemia cells seemed to bear granulocyte surface antigens. Abstract.The level of blood‐groupA1‐specified α, 3′‐N‐acetyl‐D‐gaIactosaminyl‐transferase in the serum of recently‐delivered women was found to be appreciably lower than the level of this enzyme in the serum of non‐pregnant adults and of newborn infants; a similar but less striking decrease was observed in the levels of theA2‐specified α, 3′‐N‐acetyl‐D‐galactosaminyl‐transferase and theH‐specified α, 2′‐L‐fucosyltransferase. Although the red cells of newborn infants are known to have relatively few A and H antigen sites, the serum of neonates was found to have a level ofA1‐ andA2‐dependent N‐acetylgalactosaminyltransferases andH‐dependent fucosyltransferase as high as, if not higher than, the serum of non‐pregnant adults. Abstract.Until recently, hepatitis type B was thought to be transmitted parenterally. However, much evidence has appeared regarding non‐parenteral transmission. Hospital personnel are exposed both ways to this disease. We compared the incidence of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) and antibody (anti‐HBs) among 388 workers at a major medical center in Israel with 203 kibbutz residents, using radioimmunoassay procedures.Of the hospital personnel, 1.8% were found to carry the antigen and 23.9% the antibody. In contrast, 0.5% of kibbutz personnel were antigen‐positive and 11.8% carried the antibody. The highest incidence of antibody was found among people born in middle‐eastern countries outside of Israel. These results show a significant increase in the exposure of hospital personnel to hepatitis B virus. Abstract.A population of human erythrocytes (free A3cells) which was entirely unagglu‐tinable with anti‐A hemagglutinins was successfully separated from human blood group A3erythrocytes by affinity chromatography on a column of lima bean anti‐A hemagglutinin (LBH)‐Sepharose. The hemagglutinating and the binding properties of free A3cells with purified LBH and purified eel serum anti‐H hemagglutinin (ESH) were investigated. It has been revealed that there exists a bulk of H antigens on free A3cells, whereas the number of A antigens on a free A3cell is only 9% of that on an A1cell. However, no appreciable difference was observed in the binding constants of A1and free A3cells to LBH and ESH. From these results it is assumed that the structure of the A antigens on free A3cells is identical with, or at least similar to, that on A1cells, but the density of the antigens on the surface of free A3cells is too low to induce the agglutination of the cells with LBH or ant

Abstract.In the course of a genetic investigation carried out in a Pyrenean population, a family with a new allele of the Gc system was found. Electrophoretic analysis revealed a faster migrating variant with a double band pattern. Presumably, this variant represents a mutant of theGc1allele. The variant is transmitted as an autosomal codominant trait. This additional allele at the Gc locus is namedGcT(GcToulouse).
