摘要:
AbstractThis paper decribes an investigation into the use of audio‐visual aids in teaching in the intermediate stage schools for girls, which are run by the General Presidency for Girls’Eudcation. Questionnaire data were collected and analysed and various factors were found to influence the use/non‐use of audio‐visual aids. It makes recommendations, which, if adopted, would increase the use of audio‐visual aids in Saudi intermediate schools for girls, and stimulate the teaching‐learn

摘要:
AbstractExtended descriptive text documents, such as transcripts of interviews, are a source of data which is gaining in importance as phenomenographic approaches to qualitative research become more widely used as computer software is developed to aid the task of analysis. This article describes a trial of a method of data gathering using electronic mail over international computer networks which might present real advantages over face to face interviews in terms of labour of transcription, since the information arrives already in a form readable by analytical software. Additional advantages are the widening of geographic scope, by the elimination of the need for researchers to travel to meet respondents; and the freedom for‘interviewing’to be done at times convenient to both parties. There are, however, a number of issues arising which need to be taken into account if the technique is to be fully effect

摘要:
AbstractHow do student teachers see computers being used in secondary mathematics lessons, and how do they themselves use them on teaching practice? These questions were prompted by the need to provide appropriate experiences for students on the Postgraduate Certificate of Education course. Information collected over a two year period suggests that although computer use was not widespread, more students used computers, and applications software in particular, than practising teachers. Strategies for course provision are outlined and the examination of assumptions and beliefs is indicated as an important dimension in future work.

摘要:
AbstractOne of the main shortcomings of multimedia in open learning environments is the use of monitors. The monitor as currently supplied with the personal computer originates from the world of television and video. Television equipment is extremely suitable for the transmission of one‐way messages and also for the presentation of film, video and speakers (‘talking heads’). It is also suitable for giving instruction and showing other educational programmes. But the monitor is built as a one‐way message medium.Pictures and images are presented but disappear as soon as other pictures are presented. Thus, a certain measure of short and long memory is required as well as the interpretation of the data and so it remains a linear medium. The organisation of the monitor display is a constant worry in open learning and working environments, because in practice it is continually changing. This article analyses these shortcomings and describes some solutions according to the concepts and theories of Min, Koopal, Gritter, Struyker Boudier, Coleman, Miltenburg and Van Schaick Zillesen, developed over the last decade (Min

摘要:
AbstractThis paper adopts an historical perspective to view the development of business gaming software in the United Kingdom. It argues that, given its use and evolution over three decades, studying this particular software type can generate insights that can be transferred to educational software in general. It also highlights the extent of user‐developed software and the accompanying impact on the availability of technology to the use

摘要:
AbstractA preliminary evaluation of classroom use of CD‐I and CDTV in five schools is described. Information is provided on the pedagogical, operational, and logistical characteristics of these interactive media technologies compared to interactive video. A number of benefits are described, but it is suggested that poorly designed or inappropriate software and technology fatigue amongst teachers contribute to the low take‐up of these systems in the classr

摘要:
AbstractMany students have severe difficulties in successfully gaining a good understanding of Newtonian Mechanics. They exhibit deep misconceptions, many of which have developed as pre‐instructional ideas on the subject in order to explain observed phenomena and experience. We have been developing a series of computer based systems to address this problem by presenting the learner with flexible routes of learning to help elicit, restructure and understand the concepts involved. The systems are based on our previously described theories of the application of Hypermedia to allow constructivist approaches to learning. We are committed to developing usable, inviting and self‐paced packages that allow for individual differences, and levels of communication for students. The system is constructed using off‐the‐shelf multimedia authoring tools, that allow non‐programmers to build educational packages that take account of soundly based theories of
