SummaryThe technic for manually guiding a percutaneously inserted biopsy needle into hepatic nodules at the time of operation is described. The usefulness of this simple procedure is illustrated by six patients with carcinomas of the colon or rectum who had hepatic nodules that felt like metastatic cancer. Microscopic examination of biopsy specimens showed the hepatic lesions of two of these patients to be benign. A seventh patient had diffuse enlargement of the liver which was shown to be due to metastatic cancer, and radical surgery was avoided.

SummaryThere have been 158 recorded cases of adenocarcinoma of the appendix reported in the literature. Seven additional cases are documented. The great majority of patients have symptoms of acute appendicitis or appendiceal abscess when first seen. Appendectomy with right hemicolectomy yields the best long‐term survival rates.

This uncommon event must be considered a clinical curiosity and does not reflect unfavorably upon the need for or efficacy of post‐operative radiation therapy in properly selected cases.

SummaryThe steroid foam preparation seems to be a useful addition to medications, available for treatment of ulcerative colitis. It was particularly beneficial in cases involving the distal colon and rectum. Patient acceptance of the foam mode of administration was excellent, and all patients with prior experience with steroid enemas preferred the foam vehicle to the enema. The foam controlled tenesmus. No untoward side‐effect was seen in any patient treated with the foam alone.
