摘要:
ConclusionWe have reported the cases of 45 patients treated for lipoma of the colon in a 20‐year period. We recommend surgical intervention in all cases, primarily to establish the differential diagnosis from the more common primary colonic carcinoma or adenomatous polyp, and secondarily to obviate possible intussusception or obstruction.

摘要:
SummaryThe unusual occurrence of bleeding from a gastrointestinal anastomosis 29 days after right colectomy and ileotransverse colostomy is described. Diagnosis and prompt treatment were facilitated by the use of selective superior mesenteric arteriography.

摘要:
SummaryThe clinical entity of hepatic portal venous gas has been described. A patient with chronic ulcerative colitis is added to the small number of survivors. This condition is probably more common than reported, and a careful search of the hepatic region in abdominal roentgenograms of all ill patients with distention, intestinal congestion, or infarction may result in a higher frequency of recognition of this clinical sign. These patients are acutely ill, and most die. The exact etiology is still unclear, but present evidence suggests invasion of the mesenteric and portal venous system by gasforming bacteria through a damaged intestinal mucosa. Aggressive antibiotic therapy against these organisms, combined with early surgical removal of vascular compromised bowel, may lead to a better survival rate in these patients.

摘要:
SummaryA case of systemic neurofibromatosis involving the rectum and the anal canal is presented. The literature is reviewed and it is stressed that the neurofibromas should be considered in the differential diagnosis of gastrointestinal bleeding when cutaneous nodules are discovered.

摘要:
SummaryA case of an incarcerated right inguinal hernia containing a perforated appendix with periappendicular abscess is reported. The rarity and diagnostic difficulties of such a case are emphasized. An emergency operation should be performed in every case in which there is a painful swelling of unknown cause in the groin. The literature on the subject is reviewed.

摘要:
SummaryA 56‐year‐old woman with lifelong symptoms of irregular bowel habits and symptoms of obstruction of the large intestine was found to have a sigmoid volvulus caused by lack of normal peritoneal attachments and a long mesentery to the splenic flexure. It is possible that the patient had had episodes of volvulus of the splenic flexure, corrected by autodetorsion, before the reported incident and that the diagnosis had been missed in earlier examinations.
