&NA;A case of Crohn's colitis with unusual endoscopic and morphologic appearances is reported. The colitis was asymptomatic and discovered incidentally. Histologic confirmation was obtained following segmental colectomy.

&NA;Frequent tagged red blood cell scans offer an important diagnostic adjunct to help define a site of intermittent bleeding. Success is based upon scanning at two‐to‐four‐hour intervals. Two patients are presented who experienced intermittent episodes of melena and hematochezia over prolonged periods of time. In each case an extensive diagnostic work‐up had been performed on multiple occasions and failed to demonstrate the source. Utilizing a Technetium‐99 macroaggregated albumin (Tc‐99m) tagged red blood cell scan, an intermittently bleeding lesion within the small bowel was identified in each instance. In order to detect an intermittently bleeding lesion within the small bowel, more frequent scanning intervals are recommended. Due to rapid clearing of tagged red blood cells into the colon from the small‐bowel bleeding point, the source may be obscured by longer, routine scanning intervals.

&NA;Two cases of leiomysarcoma of the rectum are reported in which the diagnosis required repeated biopsy in order to differentiate the lesions from their benign counterparts and other tumors. One patient presented with an ischiorectal abscess. The author is unaware, of any similar presentation reported previously. Close follow‐up is essential in order to detect local recurrence. There is no evidence of any significant advantage in the use of chemotherapy or deep x‐ray therapy, and they were therefore not used in either case.

&NA;The recent literature on abdominal tuberculosis is comprehensively reviewd, and seven cases of abdominal tuberculosis are reported, including four belonging to three generations of the same family. Possible explanations for this familial incidence are discussed. Abdominal tuberculosis is not so rare; 135 cases have recently been reported from the misconceptions: abdominal tuberculosis is rare, tuberculosis is a stigmata of the poor, abdominal tuberculosis is always associated with active pulmonary tuberculosis, and chronic abdominal pathology is synonymous with regional enteritis. Since the discription of regional enteritis more and more cases of chronic intestinal pathology have been labeled “regional enteritis.” The fact that intestinal tuberculosis is rather uncommon should not automatically lead to the diagnosis of regional enteritis. The possibility that many cases of so‐called regional enteritis may, in fact, be a stage or a varian of abdominal tuberculosis, is worth considering.Abdominanl tuberculosis is not a relic of the past. It remains a real challenge to the diagnostic acumen and therapeutic skills of both the internist and the surgeon.
