摘要:
Ventilation and perfusion imaging techniques may be applied successfully to the diagnosis of many pulmonary disorders in children. These studies may be performed with relative ease and safety in all patients, even if they are unable to cooperate. The choice of radiopharmaceuticals applicable to children includes inert gases such as xenon 133 and krypton 81m as well as technetium 99m particles for perfusion and aerosol ventilation imaging. Quantitation of regional lung function is readily performed with available techniques. The indications for ventilation and perfusion lung imaging in children differ significantly from those in the adult.

摘要:
Mass lesions in the chest can usually be best evaluated by conventional means, primarily plain chest film examination. Fluoroscopy is often useful, especially to differentiate normal thymus from abnormal anterior mediastinal masses and to evaluate possible vascular masses. It makes sense to do a barium swallow for most middle mediastinal masses before resorting to the more expensive CT or MRI. [In addition to the added expense, the marked increase in radiation dose should also be considered when CT is contemplated. —Ed.]

摘要:
While CT cannot replace plain chest radiography as a primary diagnostic tool for cardiothoracic disorders, it does offer three advantages over plain radiography: superior density discrimination, wide dynamic range, and cross-sectional image. This article reviews CT technique and radiation dosage, how chest cavity tissues appear on CT scans, and specific applications of CT for disorders that affect those tissues
