摘要:
The time decay constants characterizing the time behavior of a neutron pulse in a subcritical fast assembly are investigated by analyzing the time-eigenvalue spectrum of the transport operator for fast neutrons. To simplify this analysis, isotropic scattering was assumed, and a simple model of inelastic scattering was employed. By applying the techniques of functional analysis familiar from the study of the time-eigenvalue problem for thermal neutrons, it has been possible to classify the spectrum of the transport operator into the usual band spectrum for Re{s} ≤ - λ*, where λ* is the minimum collision frequency, and a point spectrum in the region Re{s} > - λ*. It was demonstrated that this point spectrum was void for either sufficiently small assembly sizes or sufficiently small concentrations of fissile material.

摘要:
Two general evolution equations are derived for the space-time autocorrelation function of the electric field in an inhomogeneous, relativistic plasma. The powerful methods of nonequilibrium statistical mechanics are used to show that these equations can be considered to be generalizations of the radiative-transfer equation.

摘要:
An interpretation is given of the two general evolution equations derived in the first paper of this series. Some approximations are showed to reduce the general equations to usable forms.

摘要:
Using the Fourier transform technique, the neutron-wave-propagation problem has been studied in the presence of complete backscattering plus isotropic scattering of neutrons. The discrete and continuum solutions have been obtained in one-speed transport theory as well as in multi-velocity transport theory. A one-term degenerate kernel has been used for carrying out the analysis.

摘要:
A new variant of the spherical harmonics formalism is used in solving the one-speed neutron-transport equation. One unique facet of this formalism is the imposition of arbitrary angular segmentations that can be chosen to maximize the computational accuracy in a given modal-nodal approximation. It is found that this solution procedure permits the exact calculation of some neutron-transport parameters using a low-order expansion.
