Changes in testosterone excretion rate in response to humnn chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) were evaluated in prepubertal males and in mature males with spermatic maturation arrest. The HCG was administered for five days. Three of seven prepubertal males showed an increase in testosterone excretion to normal control male levels. This increase was not accompanied by a regular increase in 17·ketosteroids (17·KS). The other patients with delayed pubescence except for tbe patient with “male Turner's syndrome,” had a smaller but definite increase in urinary testosterone after HCC. The adult males with spermatic maturation arrest in this report demonstrated clinically and biochemically normal Leydig cell function. The excretion of testosterone and 17-KS increased markedly with testicular stimulation. IICC does not appear to affect the peripheral conversion nte of androstcnedione to urinary tutosterone ducumnoside.

Friedman and Rosenman have claimed that overt behavior patterns are related to serum lipids. The present authors studied 107 patent attorneys and 43 businessmen. The patent attorneys' taped interviews were analyzed simultaneously by Doctor Rosenman and two of tbe authors. The reproducibility of the technique of classifying personality was confirmed. For purposes of comparison with previous reports by Friedman and Rosenman, a study was made of A and B behavior patterns in 51 attorneys aged 38 to 50 years and in 43 businessmen aged 35 to 57 years. There were relatively few individuals with the extremes of A and B behavior patterns. Behavior patterns A and B were comparable in each of these two groups in terms of height, weight, blood pressure and serum cholesterol Ievel. The hypothesis relating overt behavior patterns to serum cholesterol was not supported.

Administration of four ounecs of whiskey before a meal with high or moderate fat content led to a marked enhanccment of the usual postprandial lipemin. When the meal contnained triolein-1-11C, the increase in plasma triglycerides was associated with a rise in total11C-activity of plasma lipids and reduced incorpontion of lipid-11C into expired CO2. It is suggested that the enhancement of postprandial lipemin by alcohol was due to a delay in clearing of the absorbbed dietry fat from the blood stream.

The in vitro activity of minocycline was campared with that of tetracycline, oxytetracycline, chlortetracyeline and demethylchlortetracycline (DMCT). Minocycline is most active against Staphylococeus aureus. Eighty percent of the tetracyeline-resistant staphylococci tested were sensitive to this drug. Against the tetracycline sensitive staphylococci, thc activity of minocycline was about equal to that of chlor-tetracyeline and DMCT. Against other bacterial species, superiority of minocycline is less evident or nonexistent. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of minocycline is increased by eightfold in the presence of 50% plasma, while that of tetracycline was not increased. Variations in the size of the inoeulum affect thc MIC of all thc tetracyclines equally. As with the other members of thc group, minocycline was shown to be bacteriostatic in its action and cross resistance with tetracycline was demonstrated.
