摘要:
SUMMARY.The theoretical background to symbolism is introduced with reference to the work of Klein and Segal. Thereafter, an analytical psychotherapy group conducted in a day hospital is described and thumbnail sketches of the individual patients are given. Several group sessions in the course of a month are reported. The use or absence of symbolism in the group is discussed with particular reference to the primitive level of functioning of the group and the use of‘bad’language by the gr

摘要:
ABSTRACT.This paper examines the special issues relating to a male therapist working with incest survivors. Recent literature is reviewed. The therapist/patient relationship is then looked at in general terms. Areas where the therapist may be identified with the aggressor father are then discussed. Finally erotic aspects of the relationship are examined in detail. It is proposed that incestuous attraction is part of a healthy maturational process. It is suggested that by dealing with his incestuous fantasies the therapist clarifies rather than blurs sexual boundaries. A male therapist may heal the primary lesion with male authority figures enabling the patient to experience an intimate relationship with a man that is non‐exploitativ

摘要:
ABSTRACT.This paper explores the significance and meaning of a first dream brought into once a week psychotherapy. A variety of analytic models relating to the function of dreams is briefly described in order to provide a background to the general theory and practice of dream analysis and, more specifically, as aids in the understanding of this particular dream.

摘要:
SUMMARY.This paper focuses on, and illustrates with clinical material, some of the specific problems of adoption both for the parents and for the child. It also tries to define some of the psychological peculiarities characteristic of couples who ask for adoption. After this introduction, we explain the modalities of the pre‐adoptive diagnosis used by our Service with their theoretical background, their aims, the problems involved, and the results they intend to achiev

摘要:
SUMMARY.The evolution of courses in analytic and dynamic psychotherapy is discussed. A brief historical sketch of the Rugby Psychotherapy Conferences is included as a background. Three types of training are identified: independent analytic trainings, regional diploma courses and senior registrar trainings. Different levels of psychotherapy are emphasised and the idea of a three‐stage training: primary degree, core professional qualification and postgraduate specialist training. The position of the core professions and their relevance and significance are discussed in relation to the possible development of a new profession of adult non‐medical psychotherapi

摘要:
SUMMARY.This is a response to Dr Pedder's paper (this issue). We consider the possible impact of the European Community (EC) after 1992 and the role of the United Kingdom Standing Conference for Psychotherapy (UKSCP) in the training of psychotherapists. We agree that the core professions should be involved in trainings; we oppose a three tier system and suggest a part‐time modular MA/MSc degree; and we urge the UKSCP take on a major responsibility in an EC context. Whilst our main focus is analytical psychotherapy, we believe other orientations might be equally affected. Our comments draw on a paper in preparation for theBritish Journal of Psychotherap

摘要:
SUMMARY.Through clinical material ambivalence is explored as a defence by keeping differences apart or denying their existence, and as positive in the bringing together of differences. The therapist's own seductive feelings in the countertransference and aspects of the process are seen as important indicators of a primary relationship where the parental narcissism has caused the patient to become ‘ stuck’in ambivalence in order to fulfil the parental need for ‘sameness’. The child/patient, however, also resists ‘sameness’with controlling ambivalent behaviour and by being in control of nothing happening. For the convenience of style the therapist in this paper is referred to in the masculine and the patient in t
