摘要:
A technique for both monitoring and diagnosing a range of subtle faults in an arbitrary dynamic system is presented. With minor modification, the technique can be extended to encompass sensor fault diagnosis and is well suited to accommodation within a realtime Al management system.

摘要:
This article summarises work on a number of related sensor-guided mobile robot projects at Oxford University. Two fundamental problems are discussed: navigation and obstacle avoidance. Beacons are central to navigation. Implemented systems are described that make different assumptions about the environment and use different beacons. An implemented system is also described that can sense and avoid obstacles on the fly, without stopping. It is based on a layered architecture. A fully decentralised Kalman filter has been applied to a number of sensor integration tasks, including tracking an object visually as it moves around a room.

摘要:
Digital signal processing techniques and architectures have evolved rapidly in recent years. As a consequence, the range of potential applications has broadened extensively in both existing areas such as radar and sonar signal processing and in relatively new fields such as communications and industrial condition monitoring. This article reviews the development and principal application areas for digital signal processing. The main architectural approaches to DSP design are then described with reference to practical examples where appropriate. Particular attention is given to programmable architectures, dedicated components and to ASIC-based systems.

摘要:
The Flagship project aimed to develop a scalable parallel machine for declarative programming. A packet reduction model of computation was developed to exploit the implicit parallelism found in declarative languages and a work distribution and scheduling scheme was devised to utilise the resources of the parallel machine efficiently. This article outlines the model of computation and the mechanisms which dynamically control and exploit program parallelism. The article also describes the architecture of the machine and presents some performance results which were extracted from detailed simulations.

摘要:
This article aims to describe how it would be possible to use the Yourdon Structured Method (YSM) and Vienna Development Method (VDM) together during the system development lifecycle, and the advantages of this approach. It outlines the basic principles of both methods, discussing the relative merits and disadvantages of each, and suggests why using them together may prove to be useful when building systems which demand proof of correctness. A development process which incorporates the two methods is presented, showing how the two approaches fit naturally together. Also the use of YSM state-transition diagrams to model aspects of control within VDM is discussed. In conclusion, the benefits of using the two notations are discussed, and areas are identified in which further research and development is needed.

摘要:
A rule-based system to provide decision support in avoiding collision at sea is described. The approach is founded on the processing of radar data through a system of rules representing knowledge of the collision-avoidance problem obtained from international regulations and experienced mariners. Current performance indicates potential for a significant contribution to maritime safety.
