摘要:
Perioperative hypothermia often occurs during major surgery due to anesthesia-induced impairment of thermoregulatory control. Hypothermia may well have benefits in some patients, but it mostly places patients at risk for hypothermiarelated complications. To identify hypothermia during anesthesia and to prevent adverse effects of hypothermia, temperatures should be monitored at appropriate sites.

摘要:
Irrespective of the method used, non-invasive measurement of arterial pressure may provide misleading information. The accuracy and performance requirements should be of the highest level possible for all instruments designed for pressure measurements in the perioperative environment. Invasive pressure measurement is prone to errors and must be considered a relative standard. The proper choice of arterial site, adequate handling of material and equipment, and prudent clinical interpretation are required to upgrade the invasive measurement to high-quality arterial pressure monitoring.

摘要:
Sophisticated neuromonitoring by use of electroencephalogram and evoked potentials allows detection of impending cerebral and spinal damage during various operations under general anaesthesia, even if clinical signs are unavailable or unusable. This review highlights the latest neurophysiological monitoring techniques, their current benefits as well as their limitations regarding perioperative management.

摘要:
Implementation of electronic anesthesia documentation systems is increasing rapidly. This update reviews issues of system installation, and of interfacing to anesthesia equipment. Quality assurance, critical incident documentation, and management of hospital economics are discussed as the main rationale behind installing automated anesthesia record systems. Further topics of discussion are technical requirements, problems of the anesthetist's vigilance, and artifacts.

摘要:
This article reviews recent developments in the rapidly evolving field of anaesthesia simulation, from simple trainers to high-fidelity installations. Simulation can improve understanding of the fallibility of human perceptions of critical events. When used for human factors training and research, interactions with equipment, environment and organizational cultures are important.
