摘要:
Rates of gasification of carbon by carbon dioxide were measured in the laboratory using a thermogravimetry apparatus. The experiments were conducted at various temperatures and sample bed depths using powders of graphite and coconut char as sources of carbon, under flowing gas of CO2. Various CO–CO2mixtures were also employed for the study of coconut char. The measured rate data were subjected to a heat and mass transfer analysis to find out the values of isothermal and non‐isothermal effectiveness factors. These values were utilized to predict the intrinsic chemical reactivities of graphite and coconut char samples, free from heat and mass‐transfer limitations. Extrapolation of experimental data to hypothetical zero bed depth showed good agreements with the above at various temperatures, thus providing valuable cross‐checks. The activation energies were found to be 260 and 250 kJ/mol for graphite and coconut char, respectively, under CO2. Carbon monoxide was found to decrease the rate of gasification but not as drastically as some literature reports predict.

摘要:
With the aid of surface and interfacial tension data it has been possible to clarify the effect of the elements nickel, titanium and sulphur in steel and titanium oxide and sulphur in slag on the emulsifying or separating tendencies of liquid steel/molten slag phases. This has been related to the tendency of (scattered) liquid steel films to adhere to gas bubbles crossing the interface, which in turn leads to the formation of metal droplets in the slag phase. Nickel containing steels tend to form emulsions, whereas titanium, both dissolved in the steel and as titanium oxide in the slag, tends to suppress adherence of the steel to the bubbles and promotes steel/slag separation. Sulphur containing steels show also an emulsifying tendency in contact with both sulphur containing and sulphur free slags. With sulphur present in the slag, however, the opposite effect is observed, so that, as sulphur transfer proceeds between the steel and the slag during desulphurization, the emulsifying tendency is markedly reduced, leading to steel/slag separation.

摘要:
The growth model for nuclei of oxide inclusions growing during the process of steel deoxidation is proposed. The evolution of the inclusion composition has been analysed by solving the continuity equation for the probability‐density functionf(x,t)(wherexis the oxide mole fraction). The calculations were carried out for model parameters and for steel deoxidation by aluminium or silicon‐manganese. The result obtained cannot be verified due to the lack of any functional dependence relating chemical composition to inclusion radius.

摘要:
A mathematical model, based on the overall heat balance and the growth of solidification front, has been formulated to describe the single‐roll strip‐casting process for steel. The model provides useful interrelationships between the rate of growth of solidifying strip and the principal process variables such as the speed of rotation of caster drum, the system geometry, the superheat of melt and the relevant heat transfer coefficients. Using these relationships it has been possible to predict the effect of process parameters on the process performance in terms of the final strip thickness and the casting rate.

摘要:
This paper reviews the analytical quality requirements in the field of heavy‐plate production. The concept of process capability is used as a help to balance the analytical accuracy of the laboratory against the demands of the customer, those of the steel plant and those of the order‐processing and planning center.

摘要:
Because of steadily increasing demands on die forging industry the calculation of material flow will be of prime importance in future. The paper presents results of investigations of die‐forged specimens with internal scans of the symetric plane. Using a visioplastic mathematic model, the distribution of velocity, strain, strain rate, temperature, and effective stress is calculated from the measured scanning deformation.Of special interest are the results of temperature distribution in the forged part which depends on the geometrical properties of the die. These results may serve the checking of FEM calculations performed on cylindrical specimens in case of compression.

摘要:
