摘要:
The first part of the present paper explains that the cooling methods of the individual casting processes such as link‐type moulds with purely capacitive cooling (e.g. caster‐aluminium casting), with spray water cooling involving the Newtonian cooling characteristic (e.g. continuous casting) and also the combination of both types (e.g. Hazelett belt) can be described as borderline cases of a uniform model.In the second part the temperature distributions in the belt mould (for instance, for evaluating the mechanical strength of the belt) and in the solidified material are discussed in greater detail so that belt mould inside and outside surface temperatures can be detected.The third part of this paper shows the influence of various cooling conditions (e.g. different heat‐transfer coefficient) and the influence of an insulating layer between belt mould and thin slab on the temperature profiles and on the increase of the solidification thickness as a function of the casting path.In the fourth and last part, the dimensional equations of this paper are made dimensionless with the objective of having the possibility of a comprehensive representation.

摘要:
A kinetic model for the refining of steel by powder injection and by top slag reaction is presented. The influence of carry‐over slag on the indepentent and on the combined action of both processes is evaluated. The calculated concentration‐time curves clearly show the detrimental influence of carry‐over slag and the benefits of different processing ways for different thermodynamic, kinetic and process parameters. An estimation of the numerical values of the transport coefficients in the metal phase and in the injected particles is included.

摘要:
Compacts of the oxides of the fcc metals gamma‐iron, nickel and copper were partially reduced at elevated temperatures in hydrogen and observed under scanning electron microscope to study the formation and growth pattern of metal nuclei during the very early stages of reduction. A characteristic but common feature of the nuclei growth pattern in the form of tetrahedral based pyramid was observed in all three metals. The habit plane for the growth of the metal nuclei is (111) while the growth planes are of (100) and (011) type. Although the initial shape of nuclei is of the form of a disc, it slowly transforms to tetrahedral based pyramid. This is explained in terms of mixed control mechanism of metal ion diffusion and oxygen removal from the surface. The sizes of nuclei are predicted and compared with the experimentally observed values.

摘要:
The gasification reaction of carbon (viz. CO2+ C = 2 CO) plays a very important role in the direct reduction of iron oxides as it may be the rate controlling step for the overall process. It is well established that heat and mass transfer processes affect the kinetics of gasification considerably. During this investigation several inconsistencies were noted in mathematical analysis of simultaneous heat and mass transfer of this process reported in literature. In this paper an attempt has been made to remove the inconsistencies. Appropriate differential equations for the system have been formulated and certain predictions have been compared with the existing values in literature.

摘要:
Eine Grundvoraussetzung für die Einführung der thermomechanischen Behandlung beim Profilwalzen ist die Beherrschung der örtlichen Vorgänge im Walzspalt. Hierzu bietet sich die Finite‐Elemente‐Methode (FEM) als Hilfsmittel zur Ermittlung der örtlichen Prozeßparameter Vergleichsformänderung, Vergleichsformänderungsgeschwindigkeit und Temperatur an. Werkstoffmodelle können zur Beschreibung der örtlichen physikalisch‐metallurgischen Vorgänge in einem Material und zur weiteren Entwicklung der FEM verwendet werden.Über die möglichen Wege für die Simulation des Profilwalzens mit FEM und Werkstoffmodellen sowie durch Verwendung von Warmumformsimulationen am IBF und am IEHK wird in dieser Arbeit berichtet. Walzungen im Labormaßstab von 4 Stichen der Kaliberreihe Oval‐Quadrat werden Rechenergebnissen für die Stahlsorten C 35 und 50 CrV 4 gegenübergestellt. Ergebnisse aus Versuchswalzungen und Warmzugsimulationen für die Stahlsorte 50 CrV 4 werden verglichen und diskutiert. Erläuterungen über die allgemeine Anwendung der hier verwendeten Arbeitsroutine werden am Ende dieser Arbeit gemacht. Die Ergebnisse zeigen die Bedeutung dieser Arbeitsroutine für die Simulation des Profilwalzens.
