The melting procedure of the metallized wustite pellet under Ar atmosphere was examined in this work. The temperature at the center and surface of the pellet was measured during pellet heating from 200 to 1550 °C. The variation of the pellet shape and the movement of melting interface were continuously monitored by means of an X‐ray image system during pellet melting. The adoption of digital image processing made a significant accuracy improvement of the X‐ray image analysis compared with the previous works. On the basis of experimental results, a modified unit cell model was built for describing the internal structure and the effective thermal conductivity of the metallized porous pellet. The calculated results based on the model agreed well with the experimental ones.

Isothermal holding tests were carried out on the Fe‐Ni‐Cr system in the two‐phase region between the melt and crystal in order to determine the γ and δ liquidus surfaces in the iron‐rich corner, to establish the position of the peritectic line running between them, and to compare the results with those contained in relevant literature. The initial contents of the 13 test series were staggered in roughly equal intervals from 29.6% Ni and 12.9% Cr to 18.7% Ni and 28.4% Cr. They were held between the temperatures of 1450 and 1530 °C at intervals of 10 °C for 40 minutes in each case, so that 93 liquidus concentrations and temperatures were determined.Both liquidus surfaces can be described very accurately with corresponding mathematical equations and mathematically intersected in order to determine the course of the peritectic line. The results enable sufficiently accurate development of the melting equilibria of the entire ternary system, building on the basis provided by the known γ and δ liquidus lines of the three binary systems.

The interaction coefficient of phosphorus with silicon in a Mn‐Si‐Csatalloy has been measured at 1573 K, equilibrating CaC2, C, and Ca3P2in a quartz capsule to keep the phosphorus partial pressure as high as 33.7 Pa. The activity coefficient of phosphorus in the melts increases with increasing silicon content, and the interaction parameter between silicon and phosphorus in the melts at carbon saturation εSiP, Csatwas found to be 10.4.The activity of phosphorus in a carbon‐saturated Fe‐Mn alloy was also determined at temperatures of 1573 to 1673 K using a chemical equilibration technique between BaO‐BaF2fluxes and Fe‐Mn‐Csatwith manganese mass contents ranging from 0 to 85.3 %. A slight decrease in the activity coefficient of phosphorus in Fe‐Mn‐Csatalloys was observed with increasing manganese content, as a reflection of a stronger interaction between manganese and phosphorus than that between iron and phosphorus. The value foreMnP,Csatwas found to be ‐0.0029 between 1573 and 1673 K.

摘要:
Adaptive neural net (ANN) model of hot metal desulphurization is first optimized by various search methods including the golden section search and Davies‐Swann‐Campey methods. Logarithmic preprocessing of input data leads to a further improvement in generalization ability of the net. Genetic adaptive search (GAS) method is used to optimize the mathematical model for desulphurization and when the input data are preprocessed with this optimized model and fed into an artificial neural net, the generalization ability of the net becomes even better. Best results are obtained when using GAS to optimize the interconnection weights during the training phase, while training data are preprocessed through a mathematical model already optimized by GAS. For every process several options presented by a combination of ANN and GAS must be systematically investigated before choosing the ultimate model for predictions on shop floor.

摘要:
A general three‐dimensional model is developed for the multi‐phase flow resulting from the agitation and mixing of metallurgical systems with gas plumes. This model consists of transport equations for the variables of each phase which are then coupled through interaction parameters. The model is applied to three different systems namely, gas‐stirred ladles, emulsification of slag‐metal systems and mixing in shallow metal baths with multiple gas jets.

Starting from slabs of known dimensions and chemical composition in a hot strip mill, homogeneous strips of predetermined geometry and mechanical properties may be produced. While the geometry and the surface quality are influenced by the deformation process, mechanical properties depend on the cooling process applied immediately after the last stand. Accelerated cooling of steel strips is one of the best ways to achieve both high cooling efficiency and desirable product qualities. A mathematical model is developed to predict the thermal behaviour of steel strips cooled by an array of round jets. Parameters such as the arrangement of the cooling line, nozzle diameter, jet velocity and temperature, and the strip chemical composition (thermophysical properties), thickness and velocity are considered. The governing equation was solved numerically, and the boundary conditions were imposed in different cooling regimes along the cooling line in the form of experimentally and analytically obtained heat transfer coefficients. The mathematical model was validated by comparing predictions for an industrial cooling line with measured starting and coiling temperatures.

摘要:
A new method of manufacturing spherical vessels by which sheet blanks of zero – curvature and single – curvature are welded into a polyhedron, after which the polyhedron is gradually expanded into a spherical vessel by hydrobulging, is introduced. With this method, large presses and dies are not needed. So spherical vessels can be built at low cost.

摘要:
Controlled thermal severity (CTS) test which simulates the conditions in a single‐pass fillet welding was carried out to determine the suitable minimum preheating temperature for the cold‐crack‐free welding of high strength steel ASTM A 516‐70. The dependence of this minimum preheating temperature on diffusible hydrogen contents in weld metal was clarified. Then, the effect of climatic conditions on cold cracking susceptibility as a function of diffusible hydrogen contents in weld metal was studied. It is found that the cold cracking susceptibility of high strength steel is primarily related to the microsturcture of the HAZ which, in turn, is related to the preheating temperature. A lower preheating level, which resulted in harder microstructure, led to increased susceptibility. Suitable minimum preheating temperature required to prevent cold cracking increased with the increase in diffusible hydrogen contents of weld metal as a function of climatic conditions.
