摘要:
SUMMARYThe paper gives a critical discussion of some statistical aspects of nuclear materials accounting. The discussion centres on the problem of setting statistical guidelines for testing for the diversion of nuclear material to unauthorized use. Existing test criteria and test procedures are criticized and alternative approaches are proposed.

摘要:
SUMMARYThis paper develops the approach of using continuous second order models of spatial variation, as described by Matérn (1970), for the purposes of comparing the efficiencies of alternative experimental designs and analyses for crop experiments. The development is in three stages. First, a form of model is derived which is capable of describing the most important features of variation of crop yield in the field. In the second stage, techniques for fitting the model to uniformity trial data are developed in such a way that all the important parameters of the model can be estimated and tested. Finally procedures are outlined for evaluating the expected residual mean square resulting from a given design and analysis on a field whose properties obey a given realization of the model. These procedures include classical design and analysis and neighbouring plot methods.

摘要:
SUMMARYIn sampling with replacement with unequal probabilitiesp, the mean μvmay be estimated more efficiently by shifting the location of each variableyseparately. The optimum location‐shifta∗is the regression coefficient ofy/pupon 1/p, whilep, the proportional reduction in variance achieved, is their squared correlation. A fixed proportional error δ ina∗multipliespby (1 — δ2).a∗may be estimated unbiasedly, as may the sampling variance of its estimator and the reduction in variance achieved. If the estimateda∗is used in the estimator of μy, the asymptotic variance of the latter may be estimated. The results carry over with surprisingly little modification to sampling without replacement. Several small artificial examples are used illustratively and the implication for sample survey practice discussed.

摘要:
SUMMARYSome problems associated with the classical approach to the analysis of accident data are reviewed briefly. An alternative analytical approach, based on Kalbfleisch and Prentice's (1980a) extension of Cox's (1972) proportional hazard regression model to deal with repeated events, is proposed. Methods for function and parameter estimation within the framework of partial likelihood are presented for a variety of models. The advantages of the approach are discussed together with the implications for data analysis.
