摘要:
A forced transpiration arc source was used to produce high intensity ultraviolet. Using argon gas. the source produced a spectrum from 180 nm to 2.5μ Calibration and monitoring techniques arc described. The different UV wavebands were obtained using a nickel-sulfate. cobalt-sulfate liquid filter cell and a B & L 500 mm grating monochromator. The photokeratitis thresholds obtained for rabbits were consistently lower than published values. Predictions are made for keratitis thresholds for man in outer space.

摘要:
The specifications for absorptive lenses are published and discussed in terms of plano lenses 2 mm thick. Samples are supplied in this thickness. In actual prescriptions the transmission properties vary considerably with thickness and field of view. As a result, some lenses could prove disappointing or possibly hazardous to the patient. Data are presented to help the refractionist evaluate these effects, effect the proper shade, and decide whether uniform density lenses are indicated.

摘要:
In a study of 408 eyes fitted with spherical corneal contact lenses, the mean calculated residual astigmatism was −0.51 diopters axis 90 ± 30° (S = ± 0.45 D) while the mean measured residual astigmatism was −0.23 diopters axis 90 ± 30° (S = ± 0.30 D). A linear repression equation, y = 0.247x + 0.086, fits the data well and can be used to improve the prediction of the amount of residual astigmatism expected with spherical contact lenses.

摘要:
Vision training is concerned with modification of visual behavior. Operant conditioning is a method of behavior modification useful for improving the design of vision training programs and for insuring patient interaction with vision training programs. The optometric application of operant conditioning is illustrated by two experimental studies. In one, individual patient control is obtained by restructuring an existing vision training procedure. The other study demonstrates the extinction of disruptive behavior in group vision training through the use of a token reinforcement system.

摘要:
Thirteen used windshields from General Motors automobiles were randomly selected for test. Code monograms on each indicated they probably were the original equipment windshields. Photographs were made through each of the scattered light surrounding automobile headlights. Damage from windshield wiper action seemed to be related to miles of travel. Damage from hand cleaning and ice scraping operations was unrelated to age in this small sample. Pitting from small high velocity particles also showed up. On a subjective rating scale. 8 of the 13 windshields were judged to be damaged enough to cause a noticeable increase in glare, especially at night, and to warrant consideration of replacement with a new windshield. Four were judged to be unsafe for night driving.

摘要:
A method was designed for measuring sensory retinal rivalry. By comparing the measurements of the right and left eye. a measure of dominance of one over the other is obtained. A large number of subjects show no dominance at all. Dominance increases with age. Dominance in retinal rivalry was then correlated with each of a battery of neuropsychological and psychological scores. Retinal rivalry results are related to a type of psychological rigidity similar to perseveration.

摘要:
Results of personality profile tests given to entering optometry students at Pacific University have been compared to results from students in other fields as well as from people in selected vocations and professions including a randomly selected sample of optometrists and J special sample of highly successful optometrists. The usefulness of personality tests in predicting success and non-success in optometry school and optometric practice is discussed.
