摘要:
Skjørland, K. Kr. Sønju, T. Effect of sucrose rinses on bacterial colonization on amalgam and composite.Acta Odontol. Scand. 1982, 40, 193–196The effect of sucrose rinses on the bacteriology of early plaque on enamel, amalgam and composite was investigated. Three test persons rinsed with a 15% sucrose solution every hour for 12 h prior to the insertion of the test materials. Round disks of amalgam and composite were carried on the buccal surfaces of the upper molars for 2 1/2 h. Sucrose rinses were found to have an effect both on plaque composition and on the amount of plaque on composite, but not on enamel or on amalgam. A small increase in the number of Streptococcus mutans as well as a general increase in the number of bacteria were found.

摘要:
Ericson, Th., Pruitt, K. M., Arwin, H., Lundström, I. Ellipsometric studies of film formation on tooth enamel and hydrophilic silicon surfaces.Acta Odontol. Scand. 1982, 40, 197–201The uptake of salivary substances onto hydrophilic negatively charged surfaces of silicon or onto enamel surfaces was studiedin vitrowith ellipsometry. There was a rapid initial uptake of substances followed by a slow but continous uptake probably of other substances, which could be removed from saliva by absorption with aS. mutansserotypecstrain. the kinetics for the uptake onto enamel and silicon surfaces and the thicknesses of the layers were similar. the combination of ellipsometry and silicon surfaces is suggested as a model for obtaining increased information on dental pellicle formation.

摘要:
Ambjørnsen, E., Valderhaug, J., Norheim, P. W. Fløystrand, F. Assessment of an additive index for plaque on complete maxillary dentures.Acta Odontol. Scand. 1982, 40, 203–208There appears to be a relation between accumulation of plaque on complete maxillary dentures and denture stomatitis. the present index was introduced to assess the location and amount of plaque in some areas on the fitting surfaces of complete maxillary dentures. Scores were recorded in five defined areas on the denture base. Four ranked scores were used: 0-no visible plaque, 1 -plaque visible only by scraping on the denture base with a blunt instrument, 2 -moderate accumulation of visible plaque, and 3 -abundance of plaque. By summing up the scores from the five areas, the plaque was recorded on a scale from 0 to 15 points. the inter-and intra-reliability were tested for two examiners using the index on 50 complete maxillary dentures. Expressed in terms of Scott's Pi, inter-examiners agreement was 0.83, and intra-examiner 0.83 and 0.82 for examiners A and B, respectively. A simplification of the index was also presented. In this index the scores 0 and 1 were combined to score 0,—no visible plaque, and score 2 and 3 were combined to score 1, -visible plaque. Using this index, Scott's Pi was calculated to 0.91 for inter-examiner reliability. for the intra-examiner reliability Scott's Pi was calculated to 0.91 for examiner A and 0.89 for examiner B.

摘要:
Fløystrand, F., Kleven, E.Øilo, G. A novel miniature bite force recorder and its clinical application.Acta Odontol. Scand. 1982, 40, 209–214Solid state components were used to construct a miniature bite force recorder suitable for registrations in large study groups. A semiconductor was chosen as the sensory unit. the complete recording system included a power supply, the bite force recorder, a chart recorder and a millivoltmeter. Laboratory calibration tests were performed to screen the limitations of the recorder. Series of loads were applied in the range from 10 to 1000 N.Eight females and eight males, 20 to 25 years old, were asked to produce a succession of maximum bites at three second intervals for as long as possible. the bite force recorder was positioned between the first molars on the left side. The laboratory tests showed that loads in the range from 10 to 1000 N were recorded with an error less than four percent. In the clinical tests, the mean maximal bite force was 500 N ranging from 330 to 680 N. the number of maximum bites varied from 5 to 27. No statistically significant differences were observed between the sexes as regards the maximal bite force and the number of bites.

摘要:
Wenneberg, B. Kopp, S. Subjective symptoms from the stomatognathic system in ancylosing spondylitis.Acta Odontol. Scand. 1982, 40, 215–222One hundred individuals with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and 57 individuals in a comparison group responded to a questionnaire concerning subjective symptoms from the stomatognathic system and general joint symptoms. It was concluded that the individuals with AS have more subjective symptoms from the stomatognathic system, especially difficulties in wide mouth opening, than the comparison group. Specific temporomandibular joint (TMJ) involvement in AS was difficult to determine but pain in the TMJ region, stiffness/tiredness in the jaws and difficulty in opening the mouth wide were important symptoms in individuals with AS. TMJ involvement was also correlated to the severity and extension of the AS. In the comparison group awareness of parafunctions such as tooth-clenching and tooth-grinding were important subjective factors correlated to their symptoms from the stomatognathic system.

摘要:
Cvek, M., Granath, L. Lundberg, M. Failures and healing in endodontically treated non-vital anterior teeth with post-traumatically reduced pulpal lumen.Acta Odontol. Scand. 1982, 40, 223–228The aim of the present investigation was to assess the frequency of technical failures as well as the 4-year results of endodontic treatment in non-vital incisors with post-traumatically reduced pulpal lumen. In 54 teeth the smallest width of the root canal was measured and classified as 0,≤0.1,>0.1 -≤0.2 or>0.2 mm. the total frequency of failures was 20%. In upper incisors it was 15–17% in the classes up to a root canal width of 0.2 mm. In lower incisors with no or only partially visible root canal it was 71% and in the class up to 0.1 mm 10%, the difference being significant at the 5% level. the total frequency of healing after 4 years was 80%, while in teeth with a technical failure at the time of treatment the frequency was 50%. the difference between the group without and that with technical failures was statistically significant at the 5% level.

摘要:
Aas, I. H. M. the depth of the lingual fossa in permanent maxillary incisors of East Greenland Eskimos. I. Statistical distribution and fluctuating dental asymmetry.Acta Odontol. Scand. 1982, 40, 229–234Maxillary incisor lingual fossa depth was measured in East Greenland Eskimos. It was shown that the statistical distribution for the trait may vary from population to population, from tooth type to tooth type and between the sexes. Examination of statistical distribution should be a part of studies giving detailed statistical analysis of a trait. the statistical distribution is probably compatible with a hypothesis of polygenic inheritance. the correlations across the midline were higher for I1than for I2, and I1to I2correlations were lower than across midline correlations for both I1and I2. It was shown that the degree of fluctuating asymmetry may vary from one dental trait to another. for lingual fossa depth no population variation in fluctuating asymmetry could be demonstrated, in spite of obvious differences in environmental conditions for the populations compared. No sex differences in fluctuating asymmetry were found.

摘要:
Aas, I. H. M. the depth of the lingual fossa in permanent maxillary incisors of East Greenland Eskimos. II. Side asymmetry, sex differences, comparison of centrals and laterals and anthropologic aspects.Acta Odontol. Scand. 1982, 40, 235–239Maxillary incisor lingual fossa depth was measured on casts of East Greenland Eskimo dentitions. No directional side asymmetry was found. the present study is the only which shows mean lingual fossa depth to be significantly deeper in the female than in the male. Larger incisor strength in the females is functional as the females are known to use their incisors as tools. the present investigation shows that on the question of sex differences conclusions should be drawn for the examined population only, and that generalization to other populations should be avoided. Mean lingual fossa depths were significantly different for centrals and laterals, but the laterals demonstrate especial lack of reduction in this population. Lack of reduction of incisors together with frequent agenesis of third molars demonstrate that the posterior dentition may reduce independently of the anterior dentition. Mean lingual fossa depth, and relative fossa depth, in East Greenland Eskimos clearly show Mongoloid values.

摘要:
Brunell, G. Microstructure of cast post and core at different mold temperatures.Acta Odontol. Scand. 1982, 40, 241–246In the present investigation the microstructure and bonding between the wrought and cast elements of the post and core specimens were evaluated with respect to the preheating temperature of the investment. Clinically sized specimens were produced from one type III gold casting alloy in combination with two different wrought wire precious alloys. Preheating temperatures of 500°, 600°, 700°, 800°and 900°C were employed.Microscopic evaluation of polished and etched transverse and longitudinal sections of the specimens indicated that recrystallization of the wrought wire was initiated at 700°C for one type of specimen. the best reproduction of the wax pattern was obtained at 800°C for post and core combinations. the union between the wrought and cast elements was, regardless of wire type, better in the core portion than in the post. the best union between cast and wrought structures was obtained with a non-oxidizing wire at 700°C.
