摘要:
AbstractIn this article, an overview will be given on the continuous improvement of the transmission line models, one of the different types of models used to analyze microstrip antenna structures. Starting from 1974, the year in which the simplest possible variant was introduced, the different improvements will be discussed briefly from a pragmatic point of view. More time will be devoted to a state‐of‐the‐art transmission line model. The last part of this review article will take a look into the future and try to guess which improvements and generalizations can (and maybe have to) be implemented to obtain a model able to compete with sophisticated integral equation models running on ever faster and faster computers. © 1993 John Wiley&Son

摘要:
AbstractA network model for an aperture coupled microstrip patch is developed. The derivation of the topology of the network model is based on electromagnetic arguments. The values of the components in the network model are found by optimization using input reflection coefficient data computed from a method of moments model. The topology of the network model is described together with a procedure for the determination of the values of its components. After the determination of the values of the components, the network model can be used in a CAD program for a large range of mechanical dimensions, without the need of additional method of moments calculations. © 1993 John Wiley&Sons, Inc

摘要:
AbstractCurve‐fitting formulas based on moment method results are presented for the normalized resonant frequencies of the TM01and TM10modes of a rectangular patch antenna covered with a superstrate. The formulas can be used for a wide range of substrate and superstrate thicknesses and permittivities. Although they are obtained by fitting data points with aspect ratioa/b= 1.5, the formulas are found to be useful fora/bbetween 1.3 and 1.8. Comparison with measured data is given. © 1993 John Wiley&Sons. I

摘要:
AbstractWe propose an analytical model for the determination of the electrical characteristics (resonant frequency, input impedance) of probe‐fed printed antennas with radiating element of various form. This model is original and is easily included in CAD system. The theoretical results are in good agreement with the experiments and with rigorous theoretical models. We make use of computer algebra to compute the uncertainty of the calculated values, i.e., the sensitivity to the physical and geometrical parameters. © 1993 John Wiley&Sons, I

摘要:
AbstractA CAD approach based on the multiport network model (MNM) has been developed for the design/analysis of rectangular microstrip patches gap‐coupled to a microstrip feed line. Microstrip patches on thin substrates with and without a dielectric cover layer are considered. Results of the analysis for sample two‐port patches are compared with experimental and moment method results. The agreement validates the proposed model and the analysis procedure. Application of the MNM approach to CAD of linear series‐fed arrays of gap‐coupled rectangular microstrip patches is also discussed, © 1993 John Wiley&S

摘要:
AbstractThis article describes a method for analysis and design of rectangular microstrip antennas coupled to a microstrip feed line in a two‐layer configuration using either a probe or a small aperture. The technique is based on the cavity model and, thus is numerically efficient, making it suitable for computer‐aided design. The analysis takes into account higher order modes excited underneath the patch. Analysis results were implemented in two computer programs: an analysis program and a design program based on optimization techniques. Experimental results are presented to validate this method. © 1993 John Wiley&Sons,

摘要:
AbstractA simplified model is suggested for describing aperture‐coupled patch antennas in CAD applications. The scattering parameters of the antenna are calculated by assuming a single mode distribution for the currents on the slot and on the microstrip‐line. The coupling between the slot and the patch is represented by superimposing a contribution from a fundamental mode and that from higher order modes. The former is described by a complex eigenvalue of a cavity model with impedance walls. The latter is described by a parallel plate waveguide model, which properly accounts for the storage of reactive energy close to the slot. Numerical results are presented and compared with experiments. In particular, S‐band patches have been fabricated and tested to demonstrate the accuracy of the model. © 1993 John Wiley&Son

摘要:
AbstractThis article presents and compares the basic analytical expressions currently used to evaluate the probe impedance in coaxial‐fed microstrip patches. These expressions belong essentially to two different families, namely the quasi‐static models and the “two‐infinite‐parallel‐plates” models. Particular attention is paid to the theoretical foundations of every model. The qualities of each family are ascertained by comparing their predictions to experimental results and to rigorous numerical results obtained using a full‐wave numerical model. © 1993 John
