摘要:
Every journey begins with a first step. The direction in which that step is taken and the route the journey follows depend, to some extent, on events in the past. We all know where IBRA has been but where is it going?

摘要:
On this 40th‘anniversary’of Africanized honey bees in the Americas, David De Jong, a prominent bee researcher who has worked for many years on AHB, gives his personal views and puts the problems faced by beekeepers in Brazil into perspective. Here, he reviews how beekeeping practice has changed as beekeepers have successfully adapted to managing these behaviourally problematic bees.

摘要:
Because they are easily cultured, economically important, and endlessly fascinating, honey bees are the most well-known and well-researched insects in the world. They interest beekeeper and scientist alike, and although the aims of the two groups differ, their respective activities complement each other. We can thank practical-minded beekeepers for inventing beekeeping equipment, working out basic beekeeping techniques, accumulating untold hours of natural observations, and identifying applied research needs. And we can thank generations of scientists who have pieced together bee biology, disease etiologies and treatments, parasitology, genetics and breeding. Clearly, the relationship between beekeepers and bee scientists is mutually beneficial.

摘要:
Single, double or at a maximum 4-compartment mating hives with only one entrance hole in each hive wall are commonly used (in the former Soviet Union). Attempts have been made, for economic reasons, to increase the number of compartments per hive, thus also increasing the number of entrance holes per wall. This always led to increased queen losses and reduced mating success1,8,9. This article briefly reviews the author's work on entrance divisions to reduce bees walking from one entrance to another and discusses—in the light of his results—the prospects for new designs of multiple nucleus hives.
