The paper describes two morphologically distinct forms ofPluchea lanceolataoccurring at Agra and the surrounding areas. This morphological diversity is not associated with any difference in the chromosome number and the karyotype. All plants invariably have n = 10 and 2n= 20. This is the first report on the chromosome number of the plant. Meiosis is normal and results in the formation of viable pollen grains which are shed at the 3 celled stage.

Les plantes deNicotiana tabacumexaminées proviennent de graines obtenues après divers traitements des fleurs par les radiotions gamma. Les stades irradiés furent les gamètes, le zygote et le proembryon; les doses totales furent de 1000, 2000 et 4000 r appliquées en 16 heures; pour le zygote, les trois doses totales furent également appliquées en 4 heures (intensités quatre fois plus fortes).

Cytological analysis of a viviparous onion, known asAllium cepaL. var.viviparum(Metzeg.) Alef., showed that this onion presents a caryogram quite different from the one that characterizesAllium cepa.Moreover, in the viviparous onion, all interphase nuclei have only one nucleolus instead of two, as it is generally inAllium cepa.Data obtained from cytological analysis ofviviparousonion, together with its morphological characteristics, lead to the hypothesis that this line should be considered a clone derived from a more or less remote hybridization betweenAllium cepaandAllium fistulosum.

Rare anaphases showing 49 (7n) and 21 chromosomes (3n) and the segregation of the latter into sets of 14 and 7 illustrated in diploid roots ofP. sativumsuggest that the entire mitotic complement need not always act as a single unit in replication. Asynchronous chromosomal replication may be responsible for such peculiar segregations.
