A map is presented for the salivary gland chromosomes ofAnopheles neomaculipalpus.It is suggested that this map serve as the standard map for this species. The banding of the autosomes indicates relationships with thefreebornigroup of North American species, and also with the neotropical speciesAnopheles vestitipennis.

摘要:
The time of the mitotic cycle and of its component phases in meristematic root-tip cells ofHaplopappus gracilis(n= 2) has been determined by labeling with tritiated thymidine and following radioautographically the course of distribution of the tagged DNA. The total duration of the mitotic cycle was found to be 10.5 hours, which included a synthetic period of 4.0 hours, a post-synthetic growth period (G2) of 1.44 hours, prophase of 1.06 hours, metaphase of 0.29 hours, anaphase plus early telophase of 0.26 hours, and late telophase plus the pre-synthetic growth period (G1) of 3.46 hours.

摘要:
1.A cytological investigation of the endosperms ofNigella damascenaandN. sativafixed at various intervals after pollination reveals that the nuclei in both taxa are uniform in size and shape.2.The haploid chromosome number in the two species is the same i.e.n= 6.3.Although the normal cytological constitution of the endosperm in either case is triploid (3n= 18), nuclei exhibiting aneuploid chromosome numbers do occur in small proportions.4.Cytological aberrations including dicentric bridges and tripolar anaphases are present.5.Polyploidy higher than 3nis not recorded. This absence of higher polyploidy may presumably be correlated with the uniformity noticed in the endosperm nuclei of both the entities.

1.The karyological phenomena in the life-cycle ofFomes lividusKalchbr., a resupinate member of the family Polyporaceae has been studied in detail.2.The young basidium is distinctly binucleate. This dikaryotic condition comes to an end with their fusion to form a synkaryon. The synkaryon first undergoes an interphasic enlargement followed by the appearance of chromatic materials as reticulate structure. Subsequently, from the reticulum typical chromosomes (2n= 6) are formed. A haploid chromosome set constituting a genome (n= 3) forms a daughter nucleus at each pole. The orientation of the spindle of the first division of meiosis (heterotypic) is more or less transverse while in the second division (homotypic) it shows irregularities. A third nuclear division occurs forming the eight nucleate condition of the basidium. Four of these eight nuclei migrate into four developing basidiospores while the other four degenerate in the collapsing basidium. The nucleus within the basidiospore often divides before the liberation from the sterigma.3.The mature uni- or binucleate basidiospore on germination produces one to three germ-tubes. The germ-tubes are either quite narrow or of the same width as that of the spores. As the germ-tubes enlongate, their nuclei repeatedly divide, formation of septa follows and eventually a septate primary mycelium of uninucleate cells without clamp-connexion is formed.4.The secondary mycelium, with characteristic clamp-connexion and binucleate cells, is formed only when two compatible primary mycelia unite.

At meiosis inBrassica oleracea(cabbage and Brussels sprout),B. pekinensisand the relatedSinapis arvensisandEruca sativa, multivalents were common and numerous secondary associations of bivalents were detectable in all species from diplotene into metaphase. Quadrivalent formation in cabbage and Brussels sprouts usually involved an increase in chiasma frequency per cell and there is evidence that the potential quadrivalent frequency is limited, at least partly, by limited chiasma formation. Secondary associations are thought to represent lapsed multivalents. Extensive duplication of chromosomes (or of large chromosome segments), is therefore implied, and polysomic rather than diploid breeding behaviour should be expected for many gene loci.
