The present status of the mechanisms of complexing of nickel(II) is discussed. The influence of the entering ligand, and of ligand other than water, coordinated to the nickel is assessed. Results with other solvents are described and a comparison with other metal ions is made.

摘要:
The stable conformation of blue copper proteins forces the metal ion into a unique geometrical ligand arrangement. Spectroscopic data suggest that at least 70 kJmol−1would be required to twist the protein into a conformation that would allow the cupric ion to occupy a square planar site. The observation that the γS→ Cu(x2-y2) transition energy does not change with increasing ligand field strength is interpreted in terms of a model in which Cu(xz, yz)ligand back bonding enhances the splitting between the Cu(x2-y2) and Cu(xz, yz) levels in blue sites with high chemical reduction potentials, thereby providing an explanation of the special stability of the cuprous state.

摘要:
Transition metal complexes can play the role of photosensitizes in light driven electron transfer reactions and the role of chemiluminescence inducers in exoergonic electron transfer reactions. A unifying view of these processes is given and their relevance concerning the interconversion of light, chemical energy and electrical energy is emphasized. Ru(bpy) is presently the most used photosensitizer and chemiluminescence inducer. Several specific processes mediated by Ru (bpy)2+3(including water splitting by solar energy, generation of light from the reaction between lead dioxide and oxalic acid and “firefly” type emission from the oscillating Belousov-Zhabotinskii reaction) are described.

摘要:
Electronic effects play a predominant role in the stereochemistry of Cu2+-compounds and are conveniently described in terms of first order or pseudo Jahn-Teller coupling. Examples for the coordination numbers 4, 5 and 6 are given and discussed in detail. Some general conclusions with respect to those geometries, which are stabilized most by the Jahn-Teller effect, are given.
