摘要:
Multicultural counseling has been a major source of diversity. Recently, however, it has been recognized that multicultural counseling is generic in nature, and therefore that all counseling is multicultural. Thus multiculturalism has joined the movement toward a universal system of counseling.

摘要:
This review of the literature examines White counselor self‐awareness as an important variable in developing multicultural competence. The self‐dimension discussed in this article includes worldview, cultural values, and racial identity. It is suggested that counselor self‐awareness is a prerequisite to developing multicultural competence and that an in‐depth understanding of these factors may improve the delivery of mental health services to culturally diverse client popu

摘要:
This article reviews some of the more prevalent metaphors used to describe the nature and character of the self. These metaphors include the unified and integrated selves as well as the postmodern perspectives of multiple selves. The authors contend that counselors have theories about the self whether implicit or explicit, and that these theories directly influence their practice. They further contend that it is beneficial for counselors and other helping professionals to take the time to clarify their beliefs and assumptions about the self and that metaphors are useful conceptual tools. Various ethical questions associated with different metaphors of the self are posed.

摘要:
The spiritual development of sexually traumatized clients is an important area of concern for counselors. In this paper, spirituality is defined, and its relevance for counselors who work with childhood sexual abuse survivors is discussed. Impact of abuse on client spirituality is described, and several suggestions are given for assessment and intervention approaches that address spiritual issues as part of the counseling process.

摘要:
The authors review studies on death awareness among children who are healthy, chronically ill, and terminally ill. The review suggests that children with life‐threatening diseases demonstrate increased understanding of death compared with children who are either healthy or chronically ill. In particular, children with terminal illness, especially during the end stage of their disease, show an advanced understanding of the death concepts of irreversibility and finality. In contrast, healthy and chronically ill children appear to require certain age, cognitive developmental level, or intelligence thresholds to understand these concepts. Possible explanations for the findings in this literature are discussed. The implications of death awareness research for counselors are used as a base for suggesting counseling strategie

摘要:
Major perspectives concerning the use of writing in counseling are given, with the goal of clarifying the nature of what has proved to be a useful but vague and poorly defined technique. This article reviews the practice of what this author calls “scriptotherapy” and cites examples. Practitioners and researchers have tended to avoid the problem of defining scriptotherapy or establishing guidelines for its use, perhaps because systematic empirical research that supports the value of therapeutic writing has been lacking. Drawing, however, from the increasing flow of both anecdotal and controlled studies that point to the specific benefits of writing, the author proposes recommendations for the use of scriptother

摘要:
South Africa is undergoing rapid change in a post‐apartheid era. This article uses the developmental‐contextual perspective to examine the extent to which contextual and individual factors dynamically interact in the career development of Black South African adolescents. Furthermore, interventions that may assist in the career development of Black adolescents, as well as the implications of this research for counselors, are provi

摘要:
A thorough psychometric evaluation of the Career Decision‐Making Self‐Efficacy Scale (CDMSES; Taylor&Betz, 1983) is provided. The construct of career decision‐making self‐efficacy, stemming from Bandura's (1977) self‐efficacy theory, is discussed. A summary of the initial construction and development of the scale is provided, followed by a comprehensive review of the results of various investigations on the reliability and validity of the CDMSES. An overall evaluation of the CDMSES's psychometric strengths and weaknesses is given. The article concludes with ideas for additional psychometric research of the CDMSES and discusses the usefulness of the scale in career counseling and career development
