摘要:
The post‐practicum counseling interview behavior of 37 counselor candidates with teaching experience was compared with that of 31 counselor candidates with no teaching experience. In addition, the post‐practicum counseling behavior of the 37 former teachers was compared with the pre‐practicum counseling behavior of counselor candidates examined in three previous studies. Counselor responses during a 15‐minute role‐playing interview were classified according to a modified version of the Porter Test of Counselor Attitudes. No differences in counselor response distribution were found between counselor candidates with and without teaching experience, but counselor candidateswithteaching experience exhibited a higher overall frequency of responses during the interview. The post‐practicum counseling behavior of the 37 counselor candidates with teaching experience differed from the pre‐practicum counseling behavior of those in previous studies in their more frequent use of Understanding responses and their less frequent use of Probing, Interpretive, Supportive, and Evaluative responses. These findings suggest that few differences in post‐practicum counseling behavior exist between counselor candidates with and without teaching experience. The findings are discussed from the standpoint of future research and practice in counselor education.

摘要:
The typical counselor education program does not prepare the student adequately for his position as a school counselor. Its major weaknesses are the arbitrary division of subjects, resulting in a limitation of experiences provided the student, and the failure to make better use of classes in the other behavioral sciences. The nature of the counselor's preparation should be in harmony with the objectives of the program. Closely related to these objectives are 10 major characteristics of the successful counselor. The activities provided include experience in breadth and depth in the humanities, behavioral sciences, and in the theory and practice of counseling. Eight major activities characterize the program: panel discussions and lectures; T groups; reading; written assignments; research; practicums; seminars; and socializing experiences.

摘要:
This study investigated relationships between the California Psychological Inventory and Supervisory ratings of student teaching. Subjects were 77 female student teachers. A similar group of 78 subjects comprised the cross‐validational sample. Canonical analysis was used to accomplish optimal weighting of predictor and criterion variables. A canonical correlation of .52 between three variables and the composite criterion was significant at the .001 level. Employing the computed equation with cross‐validation samples, a correlation of .38, significant at the .05 level, was obtained. Results indicated that certain aspects of the American system of training teachers might be reinforcing dogmatic tendencies of student teachers.

摘要:
A sample of 40 College of Education students enrolled in the course “Student Personnel Services in Higher Education” in two separate New England schools were the volunteer subjects of this investigation. Twenty were from a large urban university and 20 were from a state college in rural New England. The data were gathered by means of individual interviews and consisted basically of student responses to five areas: Employment and Economics; Race and Class; Leisure; Dating, Marriage, and Sex; and Social. The responses were classified and rank ordered by value and sanction and the two groups were compared with each other. Implications for student personnel workers in education were suggested.
