摘要:
A useful method which is based on the RPA and Monte Carlo computer simulation is presented for calculating an effective interatomic pair-potential from an observed structure factor. The method is applied to liquid Na, K, Rb and Cs and gives reliable pair-potentials compatible with the predictions of the pseudopotential theory. The lack of elaborate scattering experiments, however, seriously limits the use of the present method in extracting a reliable effective pair-potential.

摘要:
By means of a toroidal oscillating viscometer, the shear viscosity of some mercury-thallium alloys has been measured in the composition range 28.5–29.5 atomic percent thallium and over the temperature range from 12.5–15.5°C. Some discussion of the experimental results is given in terms of liquid coordination number.

摘要:
Experimental data for the excess volume and the sound velocity in binary mixtures of 1,2-di-chloroethane with methyl ethyl ketone, diethyl ketone, methyl propyl ketone, methyl iso-butyl ketone, cyclopentanone, cyclohexanone and 2-methyl cyclohexanone are reported at 303.15 K. All the systems exhibited smallVEand ΔKsvalues.

摘要:
By introducing a temperature dependent interchange parameter into a semi-empirical model for the Gibbs energy of mixing of liquid Na–Cs it is shown that the total entropy of mixing can be resolved into a hard sphere and an interaction energy contribution, both of which can be calculated from experimental data. By calculating the contribution to the entropy from the variation of molar volume with concentration it is therefore possible to obtain experimental values of (ΔSη +Sσ), the contribution from the packing and misfit of the hard spheres. This sum can be fitted by caesium and sodium hard sphere diameters which change by less than 1.0% over the whole concentration range.

摘要:
Recent work on small angle scattering from liquid metals has caused renewed interest in the electron pair function in the uniform interacting electron liquid, jellium. Therefore we have re-examined this problem, starting from an analysis of the exchange hole, in which the only correlations are due to the Pauli Principle and solely therefore between parallel spin electrons. The pair functiong(r)of noninteracting Fermions is expressed in terms of the density of thep-component in the free electron density matrix. This motivates the treatment of the Coulomb repulsion via a potential energyV(r)To close the theory, one must either invoke self-consistency to determineV(r), or relate it to the (direct) correlation functionc(r)as in classical liquids. Both methods are briefly considered; the second has the advantage that here the collective plasma oscillations can be introduced through their zero-point energy.

摘要:
The effect of gravity on the stability of equilibrium of a fluid interface in contact with a rough and heterogeneous solid surface is studied for a system with cylindrical symmetry. The equilibrium contact angles measured in relation to the mean solid surface are then evaluated and contact angle hysteresis is discussed. The general effect of gravity is to decrease contact angle hysteresis. The effect depends on the size (width) of the fluid interface. As the size of the fluid interface decreases, it may happen that the advancing contact angle becomes smaller than the receding angle (contact angle inversion). There is also an effect of inclination of the solid surface on hysteresis. The hysteresis behaviour is predicted in detail in limiting cases and by considering a solid surface with sinusoidal grooves.

摘要:
Indirect static interactions between two screened ions at separationRin simple liquid metals fall off as cos 2kfR/R3where a sharp Fermi sphere, radiuskf, is assumed. Recently it has been proposed that long-range dynamic interactions exist, of asymptotic form cos 2kfR/R2.
