摘要:
The Born-Green equation was numerically analyzed to derive the intermolecular potentials from the observed structural data for liquified rare-gases (Ne, Ar, Kr and Xe). In all cases the Lennard-Jones type potentials were found. The surface tension, surface energy, energy of vapourization, viscosity coefficient and self-diffusion coefficient were calculated and a comparison of calculated values with experimental data was made. Adequate agreement was obtained

摘要:
The Bijl-Jastrow product of pairs wave function for the ground-state of He4leads inevitably to off-diagonal long-range order. Furthermore, if the pair wave function is constructed to yield the Feynman structure factor S(k) = ħk/2Mc, then the occupation number nkof momentum state k diverges as k-1as k → 0. Re-examination by Jackson of the Mook, Scherm and Wilkinson neutron scattering experiment, and more recent neutron inelastic scattering experiments by Cowley and co-workers on liquid He4have raised serious doubts as to the existence of a condensate. Superfluidity without a condensate is therefore briefly discussed and appears possible in principle. It is argued here that,ifthere is no condensate in He4, then the He-He interactionsmustlead to a ground-state wave function whichcannotbe built from a product of pairs, but must include fundamentally three-atom correlations (at least). A study of the pressure dependence of S(k) in He4may be helpful in this connection

The temperature gradient necessary for thermoelectric measurements must promote the separation of constituents of a binary alloy by thermal diffusion. This can lead to systematic error in the inferred absolute thermoelectric power but after a brief and simple discussion it is concluded that this is serious only in special combinations of circumstances

摘要:
We describe a precise method for measuring the diffusion coefficient of solutes in liquid metals. A thin layer of a radioactive isotope of the solute is allowed to diffuse in capillaries which can be sectioned using a shear cell device. This method allows a precise measurement of the temperature and of the time duration of the experiment, and avoids any solute segregation when cooling the samples. The experimental results show that there is a negligible direct influence of the valence of a solute on its diffusion coefficient in tin

摘要:
The procedure of obtaining the concentration independent partial interference functions Iij(k) which was applied in many articles for the analysis of diffraction experiments on liquid metall alloys is reproduced for the model system of hard spheres. As in the real alloys the functions Iij(k) allow one to reconstruct the total interference functions of the system in the wide range of compositions. However, Iij(k) differ in an essential way from the true partial functions Iij(k) of the model system. Thus, although for every real binary alloy it is possible to find (in a variety of ways) the concentration independent functions Iij(k), they have no clear physical interpretation and, in any case, do not represent the true partial interference functions of the system
