Experimental results for thermal conductivity λ are presented and discussed for a range of nonmetallic materials. Disorder, involving both static and dynamic aspects, is covered over a range from well-ordered solids to glasses. Amongst intermediately-disordered (ID) solids which are considered the cases of plastic crystal phases, the glassy crystal state, inclusion compounds and chiral substances receive detailed attention. Emphasis is given to relatively-high temperature (T) where results for λ of glasses and ID solids are shown to be similar. It is demonstrated how data for λ(T) which have been measured under isobaric conditions can be transformed to isochoric conditions, and this transformation is shown to be important for purposes of analysis of results. Limitations at high temperature of the phonon picture of heat transport are explored using an empirical approach and an alternative picture involving hopping of localized vibrational excitations is also briefly discussed.

摘要:
The evaluation of the electrical resistivity of binary liquid alloys requires the true knowledge of the partial structure factors as well as the form factors of the constituent species. In principle partial structure factors are measurable, but the practical difficulties are severe and it is not promising to use the measured data. We, therefore, consider a simple theoretical approach based on hard sphere reference system and the Percus—Yevick equation to compute the partial structure factor. The concentration dependence of the hard sphere parameters are obtained by minimising the Helmholtz free energy of the system following the Gibbs—Bogoliubov variational technique. We have used it to compute the concentration dependence of electrical resistivity of NaK, KRb and NaCs liquid alloys. Our study reveals the like particle correlation contributes positively to the absolute value of electrical resistivity while the unlike particle correlation makes a negative contribution.

Experimental solubilities are reported for anthracene dissolved in binary solvent mixtures containing 1,4-dichlorobutane withn-heptane,n-octane, cyclohexane and methylcyclohexane at 25°C. Results of these measurements, combined with estimates for the excess Gibbs free energies of the binary solvents, are used to evaluate the equilibrium for a presumed anthracene-dichlorobutane molecular complex using the Extended NIBS model. The calculated equilibrium constant is compared to published values for anthracene-chlorobutane and pyrene-dichlorobutane. Differences in the values for the various polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and mono/dichlorobutanes are rationalized at the molecular level in terms of individual microscopic equilibrium constants for distinguishable association species.

We present the results of calculations of the phase diagram for a model binary mixture of equal size hard-core molecules interacting via square-well potentials, but assuming that the system does not satisfy Berthelot rule. In particular, we analyse the effects that the parameter which measures departures from this rule has on the phase diagram of the system. The calculations are based on the Bhatia—Young model for the bulk properties of liquid mixtures.

摘要:
Based on the functional representation for the pair function developed by Dawson and March the ground state correlations of a two-dimensional electron gas are investigated. The method appears to produce reliable results for high and intermediate densities. Although the approach contains a linearization step using first order Born's approximation, the resulting zero-distance-correlations remain positive.

We discuss theoretically (i) the effect of the alkali cation species on the ionic equilibrium between (AlF6)3-and (AlF4)−complexes in molten alkali fluoroaluminates, and (ii) the possible presence of (AlF5)2-complexes in molten cryolite, in relation to very recent Raman scattering experiments by Gilbert and Materne.
