摘要:
The paper treats two topics: namely (a) the relation between shear viscosity η and bulk viscosity η implied by the simplest, one-component plasma, model with some of the essential features to describe the liquid alkalis and (b) the incorporation of electron-ion interaction by means of another simple model, leading to linear dissipative ionic motion. The results of (a) should have potential relevance to experiments especially on Na and K, while (b) should be of interest for the lightest liquid alkali metal, Li.

An attempt has been made to evaluate the surface tension and sound velocity of Pb-Sn alloys in the liquid state over a wide range of temperature and composition in the light of Flory's statistical theory. The agreement between theoretical and experimental values is quite satisfactory.

摘要:
L'enthalpimétrie par réaction directe dans les systèmes silicatés n'est pas possible. La méthode de dissolution qu'il faut alors employer engendre une erreur importante vis-à-vis des faibles énergies mises en jeu dans l'effet alcalin mixte ici étudié. Nous montrons cependant que les composés silicatés liquides comportant Na et K présentent une enthalpie de formation par référence aux binaires de sodium et potassium purs négative lorsque la fraction molaire en alcalin reste inférieure à 0,4.

摘要:
The sound velocity in toluene has been measured up to 2634 bar and at temperatures from 173 to 320 K using the pulse-echo overlap method. The sound velocity inn-heptane has been measured up to 2634 bar and at temperatures from 185 to 310 K by the phase comparison pulse-echo method. The density, the isothermal compressibility, the isobaric thermal expansion and the specific heat at constant pressure of both liquids have been evaluated from the measured sound velocity, following the method of Davis and Gordon. From a comparison of the calculated densities with those obtained previously from direct measurements, it is concluded that the method is very suitable for precise determination of liquid densities under elevated pressures.

摘要:
We demonstrate how the formula we proposed recently for the effective volume can be applied to improve Flory's formula so that the entropy of mixing of liquid binary alloys can be determined theoretically with good accuracy. The results are distinctly better than in the hard sphere system for compound forming alloys.

摘要:
Liquid structure and potential energy considerations lead to an approximate correspondence between the strongly coupled quantal electron plasma near the Wigner transition and its classical counterpart. However no such correspondence exists between the coupling strengths for the two freezing transitions. Electron tunnelling must therefore be important in determining the quantal Wigner transition, a possible quantal picture being proposed by analogy with Zenter's idea of classical ‘ring’ diffusion.

The Gibbs adsorption formula for a binary mixture of liquids, γ2= γ1(x/(1 -x)) - (x/RT)δγ/δx, and Guggenheim's formula,A1γ1+A2γ2= 1, are examined in a practical case, the surface of a liquid mixture of adiponitrile and tris(dioxa-3,6-heptyl)amine (γ1and γ2are the surface concentrations of the two components,xis the bulk mole fraction of component 2,Ris the gas constant,Tis the temperature,A1andA2are the area of the components per monolayer of unit surface area and γ is the surface tension). Loci of constant values ofE= (γ2/γ1)/(x/(1 -x)) are plotted in the planeA1,A2. Such loci (1) are linear (2) pass through the pointA1*,A2* =RT/(δγ/δx(1 -x)), -RT/(x(δγ/δx)) and (3) possess a linear scale parallel to theA1axis. Measurements of γ1and γ2carried out by He(I) photoelectron spectroscopy support the above better if it is assumed that not one butNmonolayers are sampled by the technique, withA1γ1+A2γ2=N.The value ofNis found to be between 1 and 2.

摘要:
Currently two theories viz the hard sphere system and liquid state theory are primarily used to understand the thermodynamical behaviour of liquid metal alloys. However, these two approaches have been pursued independently and little attempt has been made to correlate the two theories. The present work explores the possibility of finding the correlation between the two approaches. We take numerical examples of NaHg and LiPb, the compound forming alloys, and apply the hard sphere results in liquid state theory.
