摘要:
AbstractThe relationship between religiosity and sexual behavior is examined with a sample of 290 female and 151 male college students. Across a wide range of sexual behaviors and dimensions of sexuality, religiosity is found to be negatively related to sexual experience. This relationship does not differ by gender. Additionally, religiosity among males is related to the sequence in which sexual behaviors are experienced in adolescence. Highly religious males have a significant tendency to reverse the sequence of sexual behaviors by having oral sexual experience before coitus. This reversal is discussed in terms of the outcome of an interaction between male sexual socialization and peer pressure which place a strong emphasis on males' obtaining sexual experience, and religious beliefs which emphasize the prohibition of coitus outside of marriage. This sequence reversal is thus seen as maintaining technical virginity at an age and in an environment which emphasize sexual experience.

摘要:
AbstractDespite widespread support for more effective sex education by parents, frank discussion of sex between parent and child is generally acknowledged to be a rarity. This study asked 18–19‐year‐olds who they felt should be responsible for instructing young people about sex, examined relationships between student‐parent rapport and parental involvement in sex education, and evaluated the impact of rapport and discussion on the students' practical knowledge of sex, birth control, and venereal disease. Subjects were undergraduate students (102 males, 97 females) at a state university. The results indicate that young people favor parental responsibility for sex education, and that rapport is associated with parent‐child discussion of sex. Both rapport and parental involvement in sex education were positively related to satisfaction with mode of sex education, especially among females. Neither rapport, nor parental involvement in sex education had a meaningful impact on practical knowledge of sex in the areas measured.

摘要:
AbstractSchachter's (1964) cognitive labeling model of emotions was used to make predictions about the impact of presentation order of explicit sexual stimuli and order of reporting reactions to these stimuli on sexual and affective responses. Subjects (27 males, 23 females) viewed a series of sexually explicit slides in story‐line sequence, in reversed story‐line sequence, or in a random sequence. In counterbalanced order subjects rated how sexually arousing and disgusting the slides were to themselves. Males, but not females, reported being more disgusted when they rated disgust first than when they rated sexual arousal first. Additionally, males and females who saw the random presentation sequence reported more sexual arousal than those who saw the reversed story‐line sequence. Females also were more aroused by the random sequence them by the story‐line sequence, while males in these conditions did not differ in arousal. These results indicated that Schachter's model of emotions may be useful in explaining how people respond to sexual stimuli.

摘要:
AbstractData from several studies have indicated that direct parental involvement in sex education is not occurring frequently. One hypothesis advanced to explain the lack of parental involvement is the poor sex education of parents themselves. Response acquisition training programs have been used to improve parents' skill and comfort in this parenting task. To improve the generalizability of such training programs, direct interviews with 59 parents were conducted to determine what types of sexually‐oriented situations occur in the home. Transcriptions of these interviews provided a set of 392 sex education situations which were categorized into 21 topic areas. Analysis of these situations revealed no difference in number or type of sexual situations occurring as a function of the child's sex, but there were significant differences as a function of the child's age. Preadolescent children tended to present more sexual situations to their parents than did adolescent children. Home‐based situations also showed that, as children grew older, they were less concerned with their own bodies and more concerned with the interpersonal nature of sexuality. The results indicate that parents are faced with a wide variety of situations involving sexuality. Suggestions for ways to increase the generalizability of parental sex education programs were offered.

摘要:
AbstractIn this experiment the knowledge, attitudes, and behavior of women who attended one of two classes on female sexuality were compared. Subjects in both the comparison group (n= 37) and the experimental group (n= 32) received general information about female sexuality via a film and lecture. In addition, the experimental group received information that stressed the important relationship between direct clitoral stimulation and orgasmic response. They were also informed of a variety of methods for achieving direct clitoral stimulation during sexual relations. Comparisons between the two groups on questionnaire data obtained 1 month after the classes revealed that women in the experimental group were more knowledgeable about, and more positively disposed toward, direct clitoral stimulation during sexual relations than women in the comparison group. No significant differences between the two groups, however, were obtained on reports of sexual behavior. The relevance of these findings to professionals who provide sex education and counseling to women is discussed.
