摘要:
This brief farewell address presents a personal point of view on the state of sex research and the organizations which support scientists and scholars who work in this field. This point of view has been shaped by my experience as Editor (1988–1992) ofThe Journal of Sex Research, as well as 20+ years of conducting research on human sexual behavior.

摘要:
This paper draws on observations of sex acts, including dances, pornographic tricks and intercourse, performed in four bars in the central area of sex tourism in Bangkok, Patpong. Following a discussion of the nature of dramatic pornography, and discursive and interpretive issues which arise from the nature of the inquiry, the paper describes and analyses the acts, which are treated as a commentary on Thai understandings of (western) male sexuality. These acts are varied and structured to maximize their capture of libidinal fantasy and erotic and violent imagination for commercial purpose. At the same time, the physical positioning of the performers and the texts of various acts provide them with an opportunity for silent satire of the voyeur/patrons. While in structure and content the acts are similar to those performed in night clubs and bars elsewhere in Southeast Asia and the west, the paper also examines ways in which the repertoire draws on indigenous erotic performance. The paper then proceeds to locate public sex performance within the extensive sex industry of Thailand. It explains local accommodation of sex work in terms of the moral significance of paid sex and the structural location of prostitution within the social organisation of reproduction and production.

摘要:
The analysis of the spread of HIV in homosexual populations must be based on knowledge of all factors which promote or inhibit transmission. Recently, data were reported from the Amsterdam cohort study that imply that sexual role separation and the changes therein should be taken into account in analyzing and modeling the spread of HIV. In this paper, a role separation mixing model is described and linked to data from the Amsterdam cohort. The model allows one to study the impact of homosexual role separation on the spread of HIV. The homosexual men are classified into four sexual subgroups based on the preference for: 1) no anal intercourse; 2) anal insertive only; 3) anal receptive only; 4) both insertive and receptive. The analysis accounts for variability and change in homosexual role behavior and loss to follow up. The results support the conjecture that there are large differences between the risks of receptive and insertive anal intercourse, with the latter carrying only minimal risk. The analysis indicates that the spread of HIV is mostly restricted to subgroup 4, the largest and sexually most active subgroup. In this subgroup, the estimated probability of HIV transmission from an infected insertive partner (in subgroup 2 or 4) to a receptive susceptible (in subgroup 4) is between 1 and 5 percent (assuming a closed cohort).

摘要:
This essay reviews efforts to alter sexual orientation using behavioral, psychodynamic, hormonal, pharmaceutical and surgical methods. The essay also examines various justifications offered for such therapy and shows how these have changed as a pathological interpretation of homoeroticism has been abandoned. While such therapy was once justified in language of psychopathology, some current justifications for conversion therapy now treat the matter of therapy as a matter of personal choice and do not invoke the language of pathology at all. That a formal medical rejection of a psychopathological categorization of homoeroticism has not altogether eliminated efforts to redirect sexual orientation suggests that it is ultimately a moral and not medical devaluation of homoeroticism that at bottom drives continuing efforts to control and redirect sexual orientation.

摘要:
The“epidemics”of“teenage”pregnancy and venereal disease, in professional literature and popular media, are typically ascribed to irresponsible behavior on the part of American teenagers. Yet, analysis of births, pregnancies, and STD cases among teenage girls by age of male partner indicates that 70% of the male partners are over the age of 20, and 15% are over age 25. Further, the pattern of teenage childbearing remains a constant factor of adult childbearing within each social subgroup over the past 40 years. Failure to recognize both direct adult liaison and modeled adult sexual behavior as the determining influences in teenage behavior underlies the failure to reduce“teen”pregnancy and STD.

摘要:
This brief report presents some preliminary findings of an on‐going ethnosexual field study of Vietnamese American sexual behaviors in Orange County, California, and indicates how they may be related to HIV infection. The primary objective of the study is to gather data on those sexual behaviors having the highest likelihood of transmitting the AIDS virus. The field research data indicate that in the‘Vietnamese American population, highly acculturated Vietnamese homosexual men, whose partner preference is primarily for Anglo men with whom they play both sexual roles in anal intercourse, appear at present to be at highest risk for HIV infection. Transmission of the AIDS virus within the Vietnamese American population may be facilitated by Vietnamese American men who practice unsafe sex with both Anglo and Vietnamese men. The field research data also indicate that a potential exists for the spread of HIV into the heterosexual population through the sexual activity of Vietnamese men with non‐Vietnamese female prostitutes in California and Mexico, and through the sexual activity of‘Vietnamese men with Thai and Vietnamese prostitutes in Thailand and Vietnam while on return visits to Southeast Asia.

摘要:
Consideration of a simple model of sexual decision‐making suggests that many individuals who engage in risky sexual practices do so for“rational”reasons. Within a framework of subjective values and perceptions, risky sex may be rational in the sense that the benefits derived from sexual expression outweigh the threat of loss from AIDS. One implication of this conceptualization is that in order to understand risky behavior, primary consideration must be accorded the perceptions, attitudes, and desires of the individual.

摘要:
This paper focuses on a brief interview with a self‐disclosed male homosexual from a Western province in mainland China. While others have reported on homosexuality in China, the sources of information have generally been nonreactive (letters and clinical case notes). To the author's knowledge, this is the first documented face‐to‐face interview with a Chinese male homosexual to reach the Western professional press. Segments chosen for focus include the self‐perceptions of the individual, his sexual orientation and liaisons, and the manner in which he negotiates his alternate lifestyle in a cultural system largely negative to homosexuality in any form. While this example is obviously not representative of homosexuals in China, it does briefly illustrate the kinds of experiences that confront a male homosexual in the post‐Mao Zedong era. Adaptive strategies by this individual also indicate how the expression of a sexual orientation at variance from the norm can be sustained, even in a seemingly closed system.
