摘要:
AbstractThis study describes the perceived importance of 165 potential barriers to sex education. A total of 104 professionals actively working as administrators, teachers, or evaluators of sex education programs rated the importance of the barriers in restricting or adversely affecting their own sex education programs. This study provides the median and mean ratings of the individual barriers and a factor analysis of the most highly‐rated barriers. The single greatest barrier to sex education was administrators' fear of community opposition. The factor analysis identified three principal factors that accounted for 79% of the variance of the factor analysis: political and community organizing issues, staff and administrator characteristics, and community beliefs about sex education and sexual behavior. Results are discussed in terms of implications for training and public relations to develop the community organizing skills needed for overcoming the principal obstacles.

摘要:
AbstractIn this study the efficacy of behavioral sex therapy provided to 21 couples by experienced clinicians in a clinical setting was examined. Pre‐treatment test‐retest reliability (3 months) on measures of sexual and marital functioning was obtained as well as immediate and 8‐month posttreatment changes. Findings at each stage were compared with results from a demographically comparable group of 17 well‐adjusted couples. Substantial improvements in the presenting complaint were reported by most of the dysfunctional couples at follow‐up. However, some of the gains found in components of sexual interaction were not durable. There was a marked similarity between the well‐adjusted and the dysfunctional subjects, both before and after therapy, on ratings of nonsexual dimensions of marital functioning. In contrast, on most sexual items, the well‐adjusted group's ratings were superior to those of the dysfunctional couples prior to treatment and remained so at post‐treatment and at follow‐up. The magnitude of the improvements did not elevate the clinical sample to levels of functioning indicated by the well‐adjusted subjects, suggesting that therapeutic tactics for sexual disorders might be improved by investigating more thoroughly the specific characteristics of non‐problematic sexual interaction.

摘要:
AbstractA study was conducted to examine whether the attribution‐making process can serve as a mechanism through which stereotypes about female sexuality are maintained. Forty‐three female and 45 male subjects were given information about the sexual experience (high or low) of a male or a female target and then shown the target's sexual arousal to a variety of sexual stimuli. It was predicted that subjects would make internal attributions about the arousal of a sexually experienced female and external attributions about the arousal of a sexually inexperienced female. No differences were predicted for the attributions made about male targets. The results supported these predictions. In addition, the relationship between the attributions and ratings of the target on a number of sexual and evaluative traits lent further support to the hypothesis. The importance of attributions in the maintenance of stereotypic beliefs about female sexuality and implications for further research are discussed.

摘要:
AbstractThis research sought to examine psychologically mediated effects of differential penis size. To investigate this issue, we asked male and female undergraduates (N =284) to read erotic passages that differed only in the length of the penis that was ascribed to the male protagonist—3 in. long (small), 5 in. long (medium), 8 in. long (large), or no mention made of penis size (control condition). Arousal and attributional responses to these portrayals were then assessed. In addition, subjects' erotophobia‐erotophilia (their disposition to respond to erotic stimuli with negative to positive emotions) and their level of prior sexual experience were assessed. Results showed that the erotic passages were significantly arousing and that the manipulation of perceptions of penis size was highly effective. Despite the effectiveness of the manipulation, however, subjects didnotreport differential arousal or (for the most part) attributional responses to depictions of small, medium, or large penises. Correlational analyses revealed that erotophilic (versus erotophobic) persons may be more aroused by depictions of a large penis, and more sexually experienced males seemed to be more aroused by depictions of medium than by small or large penises. In all cases, however, the observed correlations were modest. Overall, the findings suggest that, for most individuals, penis size may be as unimportant on a psychological level as it appears to be on a physical level.
