摘要:
AbstractThe relationship between self‐actualization and aspects of female sexuality was examined. Ninety‐five white, single female undergraduates from a regional southeastern state university volunteered as subjects. Three questionnaires were administered: the Personal Orientation Inventory (POI), Eysenck's Inventory of Attitudes to Sex, and a two‐item religiosity measure. The data were analyzed via correlation and hierarchical multiple regression analysis which employed religiosity, age, major, grade, residence (on/off campus), and the order of test presentation as covariates. The results indicated that, when the effects of the covariates were controlled, there was a significant relationship between self‐actualization and sexual permissiveness, sexual satisfaction and prudishness. Although self‐actualization and sexual libido were significantly correlated, self‐actualization did not account for a significant portion of the variance in sexual libido after the effects of the covariates were controlled. Implications for future research include using different populations to investigate the relationship between self‐actualization and sexual attitudes and behaviors, using different measures of self‐actualization to investigate its relationship to sexual attitudes and behaviors, and examining the relationship between self‐actualization and other aspects of sexuality.

摘要:
AbstractIn an attempt to determine if a community standard existed and to relate judgments of pornography to conservatism, scores on Wilson and Patterson's Conservatism Scale, yes‐no judgments on whether 25 pictures were or were not pornographic, and demographic data were obtained from a random sample (N= 114) of a community. Results were as follows: (1) suggestive evidence for the existence of a community standard; (2) the c‐scale correlated .57 (N= 114,p<.01) with number of pictures judged pornographic; (3) the 25 pictures met Guttman requirements of unidimensionality (reproducibility of .925); and (4) factor analysis of the pornography judgments yielded three clear‐cut factors and one ambiguous factor which were ordered along the Guttman dimension.

摘要:
AbstractThough the literature focusing on interpersonal sexuality continues to expand, little is known about how husbands and wives value their sexual and affectional activities compared to other outlets for their discretionary time. Preferences for discretionary sexual activity, other joint activities, and independent activities were examined as a function of the number of years married. A stratified area probability sample of middle‐class households yielded 227 husbands and 233 wives. Respondents completed a questionnaire that included items on leisure activities they most preferred. The proportion of husbands and wives who indicated a preference for“engaging in sexual or affectional activities”decreased as the number of years married increased. When other joint and independent activity types were examined over the marital career, it was found that husbands' preferences for other joint activities increased proportionally, whereas wives' preferences for independent activities increased. These results seem to point to husband‐wife perceptual differences regarding the nature of marital sexuality, toward a partial explanation of declining sexual activity over time, and toward husband‐wife differences in relation to preferences for the use of time.

摘要:
AbstractPrevious scientific research indicates that there are no true aphrodisiacs; that is, there are no pharmacological substances that enhance sex drive or directly increase sexual frequency or other sexual performance variables. However, if the definition ofaphrodisiacis expanded to include an enhanced subjective pleasure of sexual experience, this conclusion may be unwarranted. Current knowledge of certain pharmacological agents (marijuana, central nervous system stimulants, and methylenedioxyamphetamine) is examined with this redefinition in mind and reveals positive theoretical potentials for research on sex and drug interactions.

摘要:
AbstractThe use of direct verbal sexual initiative by females and its reported effect on male partners were examined employing a sample of college students. It was found that over one‐half of the females reported directly asking for sex. These women were no more likely to report being rebuffed by their male partners than those not employing direct means. Additionally, females asking directly were found to be generally less conventional, more assertive, more likely to be involved with males who also use explicit means of asking for sex and whom they regarded as able to cope with direct female requests. On the other hand, males tended to report compliance with their female partner's request for sex whether direct or indirect. When sex occasionally did not occur when requested, very few individuals reported the type of approach of self or other as the main reason for noncompliance. Finally, the evidence indicates a generalized belief among the females that males may be“turned off”by female sexual assertiveness.
