Bone structure, nutrient canals, form and definition, and a total evaluation of both fore navicular bones were radiologically evaluated in 169 three‐ and four‐year‐old Dutch warmblood mares divided into eleven daughter (half sister) groups. On the basis of the ‘total evaluation’, differences between the three‐and four‐year‐old horses were detectable. Using the ‘total evaluation’, significant differences were found between daughter groups consisting of three‐year‐oldmares. These differences support the theory that podotrochleosis may be (partly) due to the presence of genetic factors. The possibilities concerning selection are presented. The results of the radiological evaluation of the stallion do not have predictive value as far as his progeny is concerned.

Blood from sick cattle in Bahrain transmitted piroplasms ofTheileria annulatato a splenectomized calf Larvae ofHyalomma anatolicum anatolicumwere infected on the calf and, after moulting, induced clinical theileriosis, associated with numerous schizonts, in the same calf The animal was cured by specific treatment. Antigenic differences thus shown between piroplasms on the one hand, and sporozoites and schizonts on the other hand, were confirmed in the indirect fluorescent antibody test, as a significant titre toT. annulatapiroplasm antigen developed after the inoculation of blood, but to schizont antigen only after the infective ticks had induced the appearance of schizonts.

Twelve carp(Cyprinus carpio)out of a total of 100 were affected with skin nodules, mainly located on the dorsal and lateral surface. Post mortem examination of six of the worst affected fish showed the nodules consisting of white gel‐like outgrowths. No abnormality was apparent in any other tissue examined.
