摘要:
The most common sign of febrile diseases is anorexia, which develops at a time when adequate caloric and micronutrient availability may be critical. In order to study the relationship of fever and anorexia, feed intake in dwarf goats was studied under conditions of fever and antipyresis. Furthermore, experiments were done to establish whether a feed intake stimulant would override the anorexia during febrile conditions. Infection withEhrlichia phagocytophilaand i.v. injection of Escherichia coli endotoxin (0111B4, 0.1 μg/kg body weight) both resulted in increased rectal temperatures and significant reductions in feed intake. Administration of the antipyretic drug flurbiprofen (1 mg/kg) to febrile animals inhibited the temperature responses, but food intake was still suppressed. Diazepam (0.06 mg/kg), a feed intake stimulant, did not override the anorexia associated with fever. Blocking the febrile response ofE. coliLPS‐injected goats with flurbiprofen plus diazepam or with flurbiprofen plus naloxone (0.1 mg/kg) did not antagonise their reduced feed intake either.

摘要:
The pharmacokinetics of oxytetracycline (OTC) in three weaned piglets was studied following three routes of administration: intravenously, orally as drench, both at a dose of 20 mg/kg, and orally as medicated (400 ppm OTC) pelleted feed administered during 3 consecutive days. Analysis of the intravenous data according to the three compartment pharmacokinetic model revealed that OTC was well distributed in the body (Vie 1.621/kg), had an overall body clearance of 0.25 litre/kg/h, and the elimination half‐lives were in the range between 11.6 and 17.2 hrs.

摘要:
Oxytetracycline (OTC) concentrations in plasma and milk of dairy cows were determined following a single intramuscular injection of five oxytetracycline‐20% formulations at a dosage of approximately 10 mg/kg. For obtaining pharmacokinetic reference parameters, one 10% OTC formulation was administered intravenously. The five 20% formulations were compared and evaluated pharmacokinetically with respect to absorption rate, peak plasma and milk OTC concentrations, biological half‐life, and relative bioavailability. The mean maximum plasma OTC concentrations varied between 4.5 and 6.8 μg/ml and were achieved between 5 and 10 h p.i., depending on the formulation involved. The mean maximum milk concentrations, ranging from 1.12 to 1.92 μg/ml, were achieved 12 to 24 h p.i. A plasma OTC concentration exceeding 0.5 μg/ml was maintained for 48 h to 70 h, and in milk for 33 to 49 h, depending on the formulation involved.

摘要:
Furazolidone (FZ) administered to goats orally at the recommended therapeutic dose (10 mg/kg body weight for 5 days) resulted in significant decreases in heart rate, pulse rate, and rectal temperature. No change was observed in respiratory rate or body weight, although a tendency towards a decrease in the latter was observed. An increase in the number of the erythrocytes was found. FZ also produced significant decreases in the pseudocholinesterase activity and plasma concentrations of total protein and ascorbic acid. A significant increase in the adrenal cholesterol concentration was observed while the weight of adrenal glands and their ascorbic acid concentration and content were unaffected. No significant histopathological changes were observed in treated goats.

摘要:
The different aspects of the anaesthetic approach of dyspneic patients are outlined, and the various possibilities for sedation, anaesthetic induction and maintenance, and facilitating recovery are discussed. More specific anaesthetic approaches are presented for each of the different types of stridoric dyspnea i.e. dyspnea associated with nasal, pharyngeal, laryngeal, or tracheal stridor.

摘要:
A survey of factors which predispose the canine ear to otitis externa is presented In restected ear specimens of 106 dogs, otitis externa without tumour was found on 58 occasions. In 46 dogs tumours were diagnosed in 15 cases with an ototis externa. In two dogs an inflammatory polyp was found.
