摘要:
The Milan systemic approach probably reflects a significant advance in the field of family therapy and possibly in psychotherapy in general. This, the first of two papers, provides a historical overview of the development of the approach, an articulation of some major assumptions and background theory, and a brief description of the overall pattern of practice.

摘要:
This paper considers the strengths and weaknesses of an integrative approach to family therapy. An integrative approach can explain a broad range of human behavior, can shape intervention strategy in a manner appropriate to each case, can allow for treatment of a broad client population, can combine the strengths of each of the specific approaches, can promote objectivity in selection of strategies of change, and can permit easy expansion of the repertoire of techniques. The potential pitfalls basically revolve around the complexity of practice; in particular, the possibility of inconsistency of approach. With care, these pitfalls can be avoided. Integration is viewed as a viable alternative to school‐specific practice in family therap

摘要:
This paper describes a program designed to train advanced family therapists in the conceptual and technical skills of family therapy supervision. It elaborates upon the relevant content, overall organization, and contextual influences in the complex enterprise of training family therapy supervisors in a program that emphasizes the live observation of the supervisor‐trainee's work. Through the description of the interconnected elements of a particular program, the paper also identifies generic training issues for those interested in teaching the skills of family therapy supervisio

摘要:
While there has been considerable growth in recent years in the use of collaborative teamwork in Systemic Family Therapy, there has been a dearth of literature concerning the process of team functioning. Based upon a careful analysis of actual teamwork, a model for conducting more efficient and effective team conferences has been developed. The ensuing discussion examines the risks in working in teams and proposes ways to counteract these. Further avenues of research are suggested.

摘要:
The clinician working with the family of an autistic child may need to assess the family at several levels. The first level requires an assessment of the behavioral deficits and excesses of the child. The next level examines the family in terms of their behavioral skills and the impediments that occur when they implement behavior change programs. The third level involves assessing the family unit to identify obstacles to change. While many well‐functioning families may be stressed by the crises that arise in raising an autistic child, other families are predisposed to dysfunction regardless of the presence of the chil

摘要:
This paper reports a series of studies on the development of the Personal Authority in the Family System (PAFS) questionnaire. The PAFS questionnaire is designed to measure family processes based on aspects of current intergenerational family theory (Williamson, 1981, 1982b). Eight scales which measure concepts such as differentiation/fusion, intimacy/isolation, and personal authority/intimidation in the three‐generational context comprise the questionnaire. Study 1 indicates that the scales have good internal consistency and good test‐retest reliability. Correlations with other measures of family processes provide validity for some of the PAFS scales. Study 2 confirms the underlying factor structure of the PAFS questionnaire and supports the construct validity of the scales. Implications for intergenerational family theory and applications in research and clinical practice are discus

摘要:
As a pilot study of the reliability of the categories used to describe family structure in structural family therapy, five clinicians independently rated three initial conjoint family interviews in terms of: (a) general problem description; (b) triangular transactional patterns around the presenting problems; (c) family life cycle stage; and (d) overall problem‐focused structural map of the family. The results which, at their worst, are comparable to early studies of the reliability of individual diagnostic categories, are discussed in terms of their demonstration of the utility of the structural nomenclature, some conceptual problems in the structural nomenclature, and methodological limitations of the study which suggest design changes that will improve future researc

摘要:
The Waring Intimacy Questionnaire (WIQ), is a 90‐item, true/false questionnaire specifically developed to measure the quantity and quality of marital intimacy. Eight facets of marital intimacy are measured: affection, cohesion, conflict resolution, compatibility, expressiveness, sexuality, autonomy and identity. Forty items provide a measure of total intimacy and a social desirability scale is included. Reliability and validity data are presented which suggest that the WIQ merits further study for evaluation of its clinical and research utilit

摘要:
The family therapy field has witnessed a beneficial dedication to the study of the transmission of pathology (Mueller&Pope, 1977). Of late however, there is a concern that pathology has been overly stressed (Stachowiak, 1975). It is perhaps with this overemphasis in mind, and that the absence of pathology does not necessarily equal health (Kleiman, 1981), that researchers have recently pursued the study of family health (Olson, Russell&Sprenkle, 1983; Walsh, 1982).The concept of family health has particular significance when considering the family of origin. Bowen (1978) and Framo (1981), in particular, have described the transmission of pathology from one generation to the next. It is less clear, however, whether health follows a similar transmission process, although the notion seems appealingly logical. Anderson (1981) pointed to the dearth of investigations studying the consequences of health in the family of origin and offspring characteristics. This study addresses these concerns by investigating the extent to which subjects' rational thinking and perceptions of marriage are associated with their level of perceived health in their families of origin.
