摘要:
Through systems concepts are increasingly employed in family and marital therapy, they are usually employed in a limited way, excluding some aspects of the total system. Systems ideas are applied most fully to the nuclear and extended family of the referred patient, and increasingly to the therapist's family of origin. The interface between the influence of the family of origin of the professional and difficulties in his practice is also scrutinized, though more often in a teaching and supervisory context than during therapy. The relationships among the therapist's family of origin, his marriage and family of procreation, and his professional work are more often neglected, and the influence of all three on the dynamics of institutions, training programs and staff groups is least often explored. The authors, a married couple who work together professionally, occupied fin‐several years a crucial leadership role in developing the first multi‐disciplinary teaching programs in the London area, bringing together key teachers from all the main institutions, with widely differing theoretical orientations, in a group which now forms the Institute of Family Therapy (London). This paper describes their attempt to facilitate a more consistently open‐systems approach which appeared to stimulate unusually rapid growth, learning, and group cohe‐s

摘要:
Becoming a licensed Marriage, Family and Child Counselor (MFCC) in California is presented from a Chicano's perspective based on the author's own training. He reports that1)there is a need for Chicanos trained extensively in marriage and family counseling to serve the large Mexican American population;2)MFCC is a growing profession yet few Chicanos are entering it;3)few Chicano professionals are involved in the training, teaching and supervision of marriage and family counselors; and4)the state licensing board and the two marriage and family counselors' associations do not identify minority counselors nor those who provide Spanish speaking services.

Recent developments and current problems in the field of premarital counseling are discussed. Particular attention is given to the need for better training of premarital counselors and for more systematic evaluation of the impact of premarital counseling strategies.

摘要:
The Allred Interaction Analysis is a new instrument, designed from theory and research, that codifies communication. It was created to give researchers a tool for assessing interaction in dyadic relationships (such as husband and wife, parent and child, and sibling and sibling), a cognitive map for efficiently analyzing their verbal communication, pinpointing areas for improvement, working for improvement, and charting their progress along the way. Preliminary experimental evidence indicates that this vehicle is a useful and efficient means for promoting change and that its Level Ratio score is a dependent variable measure of value.

摘要:
The trend in marital therapy has traditionally been away from insight approaches and toward action‐oriented methods, such as manipulating the couple system or teaching partners to negotiate. This paper presents a form of insight therapy based upon systems theory and suggests that this orientation has much to offer. The first part describes general categories of relationship problems with which a couples therapist must deal. The second part takes each of these problem types and suggests how a therapist with the present systems‐interpretive approach might proceed. The goal is a shared understanding by partners of their marital sys

摘要:
This study investigated the generally neglected effects of the cotrainer relationship in studies of the outcome of couples communication training. Male‐female cotrainer pairs modeled verbal dominance patterns similar or dissimilar to those of client couples. As hypothesized, changes in couples' speaking patterns after a two‐hour workshop mirrored their trainers' models. Female‐dominated couples exhibited greater modeling of dominance patterns, and male‐dominated couples exposed to a dominant female trainer reported relatively negative impressions of both trainers. The need for cotrainers to be aware of the relationship models they present and clients' responses to these models is di

摘要:
This article presents an experiential‐educational approach to families with infants (under one year of age). This approach integrates dance and movement therapy with family therapy theories and techniques. Non‐verbal techniques are the only possible methods of working directly with infants, who are present with their parents in these workshops. The focus is on harmonious and conflictual interactions and functional and dysfunctional communications, negotiations and exchanges of feelings in the child‐parent dyads and family t

摘要:
The medical field is beginning to experiment with family‐oriented treatment and with integrating systems theory and learning theory into traditional treatment programs. This paper describes the outcome of a short‐term, family‐centered, behavioral approach to chronic pain at the University of Minnesota Hospitals. Family members were taught operant conditioning techniques which rewarded non‐pain oriented behavior in the patient.Twenty‐four patients and their families completed the Pain Treatment Program in 197A and 1975. The paper reports their level of functioning before and after the program and the work with the family system during treatment. The goals of treatment included improving family relationships, regaining occupational roles, eliminating prescription pain medication, increasing tolerance for selected exercises, and reducing use of the health care system. By treating the total family, 75% of the patients and families were able to lead normally active and satisfactory li

摘要:
Counseling divorced fathers brings with it many special concerns unique to the divorced father. Four phases of counseling with these men are discussed. Phase I deals with the immediate crisis bringing the client into counseling; Phase II examines the various losses and dependency needs; Phase III centers around beliefs, values, and social realities; Phase IV focuses on issues of being an unmarried parent. Each of these phases has its own unique set of issues indigenous to the divorced father. The role of the therapist and several counter transference issues are discussed.
