摘要:
Certain factors limit marital therapists in dealing with individuals conflicted over and disenchanted about “traditional” marriage: 1) the therapist's gender, 2) the presence of sex‐role stereotyped behaviors and expectations, and 3) the therapists own marital experience. Specific helpful experiences (working with a co‐therapist of the opposite sex, examining attitudes and biases toward divorce) and therapeutic techniques (working out a schedule for sharing household tasks and childcare, restructuring the marital contract, and dealing with open companionship) are discussed. The general therapeutic goal is working toward an equal sharing of overt power, with social, economic, and political considerations and intrapsychic forces given comparable consid

摘要:
This is an investigation of the relationships between the characteristics of lawyers, psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers and the criteria they employ when they are involved in child custody legal proceedings. The findings reveal disciplinary distictions, equity for the mother and father, and influence from demographic variables regarding the preference for criteria to be applied for child custody determination.

摘要:
This article discusses a technique the authors have designated Family Photo Reconnaisance. They describe the rationale for and process of utilizatizing family photographs and movies in family therapy sessions to evoke past events and memories and to uncover feelings about these occurrences and the people involved in them. Through their utilization, how one has changed over time is vividly seen. Who is missing from the constellation and when they “dropped out of the family orbit becomes obvious as do distorted memories. Family members reexperiencing the past together around their photographs come to better appreciate one another's current feelings and behavior and often are enabled to gain mastery over unresolved conflict

摘要:
Most marital difficulties are seen as a function of childhood problems leading to childhood solutions. This paper emphasizes the symbiotic aspect to marital problems both in terms of the individual's existential position and his racket/ racketeering behavior. The goal of treatment is to have the individual utilize his resources for himself and to negotiate these resources for his mate. A group of spouse and non‐spouse members, coupled with a Transactional Analysis orientation, is seen as the most useful approach to effect change in a person, as well as in his relationship to his spous

摘要:
The development of a classification system for analysis of specific verbal marital communications utilizing videotaped Stimulus‐Modeling procedures is described. This instrument is applied to a study measuring the relative effects of modeling, modeling plus videotape feedback, and verbal counseling procedures on 30 couples seen in marital counseling. The Stimulus‐Modeling (SM) tape portrays both functional and dysfunctional marital communicational patterns. Findings reveal that specific marital verbal behaviors can be operationalized and reliably measured. When these behaviors are depicted through modeling procedures and combined with videotape feedback, they are effective in changing specific problematic verbal behaviors. The results indicate the need to combine modern technology with modeling procedures in marital counsel

摘要:
This paper reviews data on the incidence of marital violence and recommends methods of intervention on a family and social level. Myths which may block awareness of this widespread problem are briefly described. Particular attention is given to the inadequacy of the catharsis hypothesis in explaining and treating marital violence. Interventions for couple counseling aimed at enhancing the couple's problem‐solving abilities and eliminating abusive behavior are described and illustrated with case examples. Several suggestions are made for social interventions including police training, legal reform, and the formation of shelter homes for the victims of abus

摘要:
This paper has adopted an historical approach in order to elucidate the principal schools of thought which account for the differences among peoples' sexual value systems. It is argued that differential development is a manifestation of the conflict which exists over the moral implications of sexual behavior. Three traditions are identified as the primary forces influencing the developmental process associated with the acquisition of a sexual value system. The three systems of inquiry are examined for their variant interpretations of sex. Attention also is focused on the implications the three traditions have for contemporary sex counselors.

摘要:
This paper is directed to people who, sufficiently disturbed by the complex realities of problem pregnancies, are prepared to think beyond the confines of ideology. It is a challenge to people who tend to reduce the problem of unwanted pregnancies either to “abortion on demand” or to “right to life” ideologies, thereby ignoring the relationship dynamics that impact, shape, and enable the process of decision‐making with its implications for mutual caring and for long‐term trust. Rebalancing the emphases on ideologies and individual rights, this article is multidirectional in approach. It surfaces a concern for the unborn fetus, for the woman and the man involved, and for future human relatedness in which the capacity for trust and accountability are actualized rather than forced

摘要:
The problem of the juvenile status offender (JSO) continues to arouse the concern of professional and lay persons alike. Most problematic is the question of what constitutes an appropriate response to these so‐called offenders. In the past these juveniles have been dealt with as a legal problem by the court system. This strategy of functionally categorizing the JSO with the more serious juvenile offenders is harmful to the juveniles and burdensome to society as well. The present paper describes an alternate response to the problem. The intervention is based on a psychological conception of the problem rather than a legal one. Specifically, family therapy is the core of the intervention strategy. An evaluation of this program is reported. It was found that juveniles treated under the new program were referred to the court system significantly less often than a similar sample obtained before the inception of the progra

摘要:
The assumption that family attitudes play an important role in motivating children to learn is widely held. It is believed that poor family attitudes can offset the effects of the best educational program. This study employed psychotherapy to influence attitudes of families with a child in a school for the emotionally disturbed. The results indicated that family therapy improved the classroom behavior of the children as well as behavior observed by their parents at home.
