SummaryThe marketing of dairy produce in Scotland is therefore most varied, depending on the product, as each section of the dairy industry has its own particular characteristics. It could be said that there is a general move towards greater security in the market for Scottish produce by better marketing techniques. To fit in with modern ideas there is a greater use of brand names in cheese, butter, condensed milk, powder, with more attention being given to presentation and merchandising. The distribution chain in the main is still extensive, although the current trend elsewhere is to streamline it. Perhaps the major share of the Scottish manufacture held by the three Milk Boards is likely to continue to be the salient feature and controlling factor in marketing developments.
