AbstractThe method of calculating the covalency parameter λ is examined, with reference to the unrestricted Hartree‐Fock method. The results of the calculations carried out for the (NiF6)4−complex indicate that the unrestricted Hartree‐Fock method leads to considerably smaller values of λ than the method of maximizing the antibonding orbital energy used by Sugano and Shulman [3]. An approximate treatment of the self‐consistency is proposed, introducing delocalization of the σ‐orbitals into the one‐electron Hamiltonian. AbstractThe synthesis of new superconductive alloys may be guided by a form of empiricism based upon the isotope law. For a series of alloys having a common structure, the critical temperatures of its members are presumed so interrelated. The reduced mass of a compound becomes somewhat obscure for stoichiometry other than 50 to 50 atomic percent. Several possible definitions of reduced mass permit setting of upper and lower bounds on the transition point in general. Theoretical calculations are presented for Nb3In with evidence that the experimental values for this substance and Nb3Ga may require slight revision. In line with the quest for alloys with higher critical temperatures than Nb3Sn, a prediction is made that Nb3Si (were it to exist and be of the β‐tungsten structure) would be a promising prospe

摘要:
AbstractMeasurements are made of isochronal annealing in aluminium, copper, silver, and gold, after irradiation at 4.5 °K with various doses of fast neutrons. It is shown that the relative amount of recovery within annealing stage I is reduced, and annealing stage III is shifted to lower temperatures with increasing defect concentration. The first observation can be explained by the higher probability for annihilation of close Frenkel‐pairs, during the radiation‐annealing process, compared with the probability for recombination of more distant Frenkel‐pairs. The shift with concentration of annealing stage III and annealing stage IEfor aluminium indicates the existence of freely‐migrating defects. For aluminium the existence of two freely‐moving interstitials is confirmed. In addition it is shown that the observed annealing behaviour of all the metals considered can be explained by this two‐interstitial model (previously proposed by Seeger and Sosin) taking into account the different defect arrangements produced by low‐temperature electron and neutr

AbstractLarge radiation annealing effects are observed for different metals during reactor irradiation at 4.5 °K. Saturation values for the resistivity changes are obtained by extrapolation from the linear decrease of the effective damage rate with defect concentration. These results agree well with those deduced from radiation annealing observed during irradiation with heavy charged particles.
