AbstractThis article provides (1) basic volunteer programming information, be it administered through a Department of Volunteer Services or through a specific program service such as a Chaplaincy Department and (2) the specifics of the Pastoral Care Volunteer Program at Methodist Hospital of Indiana, for the purpose of exploring ways to enhance the services of Pastoral Care.

AbstractIn 1990 a new“Decedent Care Protocol”at Riverside Methodist Hospitals in Columbus, Ohio, gave the Pastoral Care Department primary responsibility for management of hospital deaths, the Department plays a unique, functional role that has answered an institutional need for overseeing the care of a patient's body and for gathering, transferring, storing and making available all related information. This has increased the Department's visibility and credibility with other hospital staff. It has also added a practical element to pastoral caregiving. A survey affirms that such practical assistance enables a sensitive caregiver to breathe grace into the confines of necessity.

AbstractThe author describes how using a life-size, monkey puppet has helped him to relate to children experiencing illness, suffering, and loss. Through the use of vignettes he demonstrates how a puppet called Curious George, helps children to express feelings and talk about their experience. Most importantly this article demonstrates how an adult chaplain must let his own child out to play if he is going to work with the young patient who's work is play.

AbstractA personal reflection article which seeks to address the chaplain employment crises that are being experienced by those who have completed or are near completion of formal training for chaplaincy. Strategies of networking, elevating levels of competence, broadening the scope of alternatives, and remaining patient while seeking employment in chaplain ministry are discussed. Actively waiting during the transitional time is emphasized.
