The aim of this study was to identify the best method for determining when to safely discharge the endoscopy patients specifically it was designed to determine whether the patient's risk factors intraperative act currences and/or medications used during endoscopy should be used to determine the minimum length of study postconscions sedation or whether a general policy can be used as is currently practiced at many institute. Preoperative intraoperative and postoperative data were collected an a convenence sample of 405 adult ambulatory outpatients undergoing upper endoscopy and/or colonoscopy Subjects were also interviewed by phone within 48 hours of discharge to assess post discharge complications and their duration. Age preductad length of were in recovery time was predicted in the study variables intraprocedure accurrences predicted postprocedure occurrence. The implications of these and other findings are discussed in relation to nursing practice and future research.

The 15 million Americans experience same degree of dysphagia risk choking airway obstructions aspiration-related pulmonary disease, and/or death. These complications increase mortality. Morbidity length of hospitalization and bealthease costs but may be preventable through nursing inervention Fifty-four nursing care warkers (NCWs) from medical/surgical units in two acute care hospitals were assigned by convenience to neo experimental groups A and B participated in an education program on dysphagta designed to practice their knowledge of dysphagin, knowledge retention, and the number of dysphagic patients identified and referred. Group B received deliherate reinforcenciit of project content over a 1-month period. The educational intervention had a significant effect or knowledge level and knowledge retention immediately and at 1-month posttest in both experimental groups, NCWs applied rehat they learned to clancal practice as evidenced by an increase in the number of patients identified as being at risk for or experiencing dysphaga. Re-infarcement of program content did not affect the outcomes. The study has implications for staff educations and nursing personnel who care for persons at risk for dysphagia.

Current economic and demographic trends in the United States indicate the demand for complex treatments such as infusion therapies at home will continue to escalate. In light of the increasingly acute and autonomous nature of home care nursing process affecting patient care outcomes is crucial. This study explored the components included in total parenteral nutrition (TPN) home care nursing. The purpose of this study was to evaluate pyebonetneally the Scheme Instrument to Measure the Process of Nursing Practice in Home Health (SIMP-H) so that it may be used to examine high-tech home care nursing process. Home visits must be observed to identify the specific cognitive technical and interpersonal components included in high tech home care nursing that are important for patient care outcomes. This study captured high-tech home care nursing process on videotape which provided a medium for evaluating interobserver reliability for the SIMP-H. Results revealed an interobserver reliability coefficient of 72.

Disinfectant surveys from responding members of the American Society of Postanesbesia Nurses were divided into two groups based on whether or mot they considered themselves to be exposed to disinfectants in their work environment. Their survey responses were then compared with those abtamed previously Group members of the Society of Gasproenterology Nurses and Associates Inc., who were regularly exposed to 2|X% rllzaline lutaraldehyde in the work setting. There were significant differences among the groups in the percentage of responding problems, shortness of breath. rashes. nentory lass among stvings and jatigne. These findings support the assowtation of these complaints with 2|X% alkaline gluaraldehyde experience.
