摘要:
The study of the dynamic behaviour of a complex system such as a nuclear reactor is conveniently performed on an analogue computer. The equations to be solved are described, and three approximations suitable in different circumstances are given. The application of one of these methods to an investigation of spatial instabilities is presented.

摘要:
A review of chopping-circuit techniques used in the production of square waveforms is presented, and two new methods which have been developed for use up to 1 MV are described. The first of these consists of a 3-sphere gap circuit for chopping impulses with a scatter in the time of chopping of ±3%. Also a circuit employing an auxiliary impulse generator and trigatron sphere-gap has been used to produce square waves of predetermined duration, or for automatically removing the voltage shortly before collapse of the test-gap.This automatic technique is a valuable aid in the photographic study of discharge processes where the variation in time to breakdown is large.

摘要:
The failure of terminal boxes in service has led to new developments in two main respects. Firstly, connection arrangements are designed to be through-fault-proof and the possibility of a dielectric failure is minimized by using fully taped connection arrangements in a clean, dry enclosure. Secondly, as faults give rise to very dangerous conditions, where equipment is circuit-breaker protected and the supply has a large short-circuit capacity, excessive pressure build-up under short-circuit conditions is prevented by a suitable pressure-relief vent.Comprehensive test results under short-circuit conditions are described and a basis of calculation is presented. The alternative method of electrical protection by h.r.c. fuses is also considered, in conjunction with test results and appropriate theoretical predictions. The more generalized behaviour of arcs in enclosures and the effect of the surrounding medium, which is important in connection with the alternative methods of termination, e.g. under compound, and for oil-cooled equipment generally, is discussed briefly in terms of a limited special investigation. It is considered that the proposed designs ensure an absolute minimum likelihood of failures, without incurring any disadvantageous complications and at the same time ensuring the safety of personnel, if a fault should occur for any reason.

摘要:
The flux distribution in a right-angled corner of transformer laminations of hot-rolled and grain-oriented silicon-iron sheet materials has been investigated. The distribution of the harmonic components of flux in the corner region has been determined. From the results obtained it is estimated that in the grain-oriented material the core stray loss, in the particular magnetic circuit employed, amounts to about 24% of the Epstein loss, 21% being due to the flux flowing in unfavourable directions round the corner and 3% due to extra harmonic eddy-current losses.
