AbstractSince the last century, there have been a number of claims that people can identify and discriminate color with their fingers. The most completely documented evidence for these claims, begining in 1963, is critically reviewed. It was the hope of the early investigators of this phenomenon that this ability would some day be useful for the blind. The best evidence suggests that people are capable of making certain temperature discriminations and that objects of different reflectances can be discriminated on this basis. The temperature exchange stems from the infrared energy emitted by the skin. Research that has presented evidence for finger color perception was often shown to have methodological problems, including learning to discriminate stimuli by texture cues and failure to adequately blindfold observers and prevent use of visual information. AbstractIn the right half of the Munsell color space from 2.5R to 7.5BG, 90 colors were selected, most of which were at the lightness level V = 7, and in the left half from 2.5BG to 7.5R, 88 colors were selected most of which were at the level V = 4. Of these 178 colors, 176 pairs in the right half and 185 pairs in the left half were subjected to the following color‐difference judgment. Subjects, five in number, selected two grays for which the lightness difference matches a given color difference in size. Two matrices (incomplete) of color differences given in terms of V were processed by MDSCAL, and finally one configuration of 178 points was synthesized in a three‐dimensional Euclidean space. AbstractFollowing the CIE guidelines for coordinated research on color‐difference evaluation, a set of painted color samples was produced near the green reference color. Visual experiments were carried out by two different methods, absolute threshold and pair comparison. Perceptibility ellipsoids at and near threshold were determined for different mathematical models and for different groupings of observers. The main findings are: insensitivity to the method of optimization, inhomogeneity of the total set of answers but homogeneity within ranked observer groups, and change of volume but similarity of shape of the ellipsoids for extreme groups. 摘要:
AbstractThe present knowledge of the properties and reactions of photoexcited states of dyes and materials is presented and discussed. It is shown that the most probable result of the absorption of daylight by the majority of coloured products in practical use is the decomposition of the colourless substrate or additives, or their photooxidation. In both reactions, radicals are produced which can convert dyes or coloured pigments into compounds that are colourless or possess a different colour. The conclusions drawn may be useful in the interpretation of anomalous light stabilities of coloured products, and help develop products with improved lightfastness.

AbstractThe Council for Optical Radiation Measurements proposes, with the collaboration of the National Bureau of Standards, to create and put into operation a national standardization program for ultraviolet, visible, and near‐infrared wavelength‐range spectrophotometers used for colorimetric and analytical measurements. The purpose of the program is to improve the shockingly poor performance exhibited by a large group of spectrophotometers in a collaborative reference program, shown elsewhere to correspond to about ten times poorer group accuracy than the inherent precision of the instruments.
