摘要:
AbstractA multiplant Quality Improvement Team [QIT] was firmed to develop and implement an evaluation program for various color measurement .systems as potential replacements for the then‐current aging systems. The emphasis qf this article is the analytical methodology utilized to evaluate the various color systems. The evaluation program consisted cf two phases. Phase I was a general overview/review of several systems, while Phase II was an extensive internal comparative evaluation measurement systems. These were Milton‐Roy's ColorMate HDS, HunterLab's Ultrascan, Datacolor's CS‐5, and BYK‐Gardner's The Color Sphere [TCS]. The main comparison criteria were interinstrument agreement [agreement between two instruments ofthe same system], user‐friendly software and computer interface capability, vendor amenability to a long‐term logistical and maintenance relationship, and price. All systems were evaluated by duplicate measurements on various color tiles, yarns, and polymer flakes‐over 1600 measurements on each system. The systems were compared with an instrument matrix, a decision matrix, and a product matrix. The instrument matrix was a comparison qfinstrument parameters, software/math treatments, and economics. The decision matrix was a forced ranking of each system by each criteria category [1–4 scale, with 1 representing the best and 4 representing the worst]. The product matrix accentuated the relative importance ofone criterion category over another by multiplying the forced ranking by the criticality of the category. The criticality of a given category wus determined by consensus within the QIT. Thr combination qf the three matrices allowed the evaluator[.s] t o select the color rneasuremmt system that best satixfied the color measurement needs and requirements of their facility and their products. For this evaluation, all ofthe evaluated systems were superior to the then‐current agingsystems. As a result of this methodology, one instrument emerged as clearly superior. © 1994 Jo

摘要:
AbstractThe accuracy of spectrophotometric measurements is limited by the standards that are used to calibrate the instrument. Therefore, the procedure used in transferring the spectral reflectance factor scale from one material to another for use in calibration must induce the minimum amount of error. the Munsell Color Science Laboratory has been transferring the spectral reflectance factor scale to calibration materials using a statistical method to correct for the most pervasive systematic errors in the measurement process. This method is based on a statistical procedure in which a set of systematic spectrophotometric errors are estimated based on the measurement of seven NIST primary standards and corrected in subsequent measurements. the optimization of the spectral reflectance factor scale to NIST standards minimizes the induced error. the average reflectance factor error consistently found between the corrected measurements of the NIST standards and their certificate values have been 0.0006 and the average δabhas been on the order of 0.2

摘要:
AbstractThe critical area of spatial integration was examined in dichromatic vision (protanope and deuteranope) by means of chromatic thresholds at equiluminance. The results showed that the critical area became smaller as the chromatic saturation of the background field was increased. Here, the chromatic saturation was defined by the colorimetric purity of the background field, multiplied by the saturation coeficient (Cs) of each dominant wave‐length. For the 470‐nm field condition, the trend of dichromatic data was similar to that of the previous data with normal subjects. For the 590‐nm condition, however, the decrease of integration area was less than that of the normal. This discrepancy can be attributed to the diference of saturation coeficients between normals and dichromats. © 1994 John Wiley&Son

摘要:
AbstractThe name cesia has been proposed for the aspect of appearance that deals with the sensations aroused by differences in the spatial distribution of light. In a previous article, a system ofcesias was presented. This included u notation system and a solid with three dimensions or variables in which the sensations were organized. The aim ofthis article is to report the development of scales of cesia, constructed with the aid ofrotatory disks holding percentages of materials producing the stimuling for the, five primary sensations of cesia. These primary sensations are: transparence, specular reflection, translucence, difuse reflection, and absorption [black]. Different geometries of observation were needed to evaluate the scales. Numerically, they were built using a power function belween the magnitudes of the sensations and the magnitudes of the stimuli. This research refutes the assumptions that the geometric attributes of appearance cannot be organized in a coordinate system and that synthetic stimuli cannot be produced for these attributes just as they are produced for color by the mixture of three lights. © 1994 John Wiley&Sons, Inc

摘要:
AbstractAn earlier article has compared the perceptual scaling of the Munsell, NCS, DIN, Coloroid, and OSA‐UCS colour order systems. This article expands on the earlier article by presenting a comparison of the Colorcurve and SCA‐2541 [Swiss Colour Atlas] colour order systems, again using the OSA‐ UCS system as a reference model. To enable direct comparison with the earlier article, the same varied but systematic sets of OSA‐ UCS cleavage planes were used in this new comparison. To enable comparison between these systems, and the Munsell, NCS, DIN, and Coloroid systems, thejndings are graphically presented in a format similar to that used in the earlier article. © 1994 John Wiley&S

摘要:
AbstractThis note is based on 2‐constant Kubelka‐Munk theory and the first‐order approximat ion ofspectrum, presenting a method of linear programming to compute the recipes and to get the basic database quickly. A lot of experimental results in paints have shown that matching precision may be achieved by following this practice. © 1994 John Wiley&Son

摘要:
AbstractTwo diferent types of chemical indicator used to monitor food spoilage due to thermal abuse were evaluated using an I.C.S. colour measurement system. One indicator exhibited an abrupt colour change after about 340 min room temperature, whereas the other exhibited a slower colour change at about the same time. The two diferent behaviors lend themselves to dierent applications. © 1994 John Wiley&Sons, Inc
