摘要:
AbstractThis article describes research that aspires to develop a tool to restore well‐tempered variety, space‐time continuity, identity, and self‐visualization to contemporary Greek urbanscape. This tool uses color as a building facade structuring material and takes into account confusing plastic structure and the shifting nature of contemporary Greek urban populations. the research is based on existing information and on psychometric data with users. The project included six stages: a) an estimation of the deviation of the existing representational space from the desired space representation, b) a semiotic analysis of representative building facade samples into generic color forms, (c) the recording of the color preferences of selected subjects for these forms, d) a semantic coding of the subjects' reasons for these preferences, e) the establishment of a color scheme on the basis of the resulting color combinations, and f) a comparison of the color choices by the various groups of subjects for each building category. The results show that a) color is mostly affected by the sociocultural aspect of architecture, b) function is the major parameter taken into account for middle‐class constructions, c) the visual differentiation resulting from the color rendering of the facade elements according to the subjects' preferences can lead to architecture and planning identification, d) spatial, functional, and sociocultural qualities can also be attributed to the city through color‐conditioning, and e) above all, color can best portray the particular character of a city, what it was, is, or wants to be in t

摘要:
AbstractThe visual clarity of a lighting environment is significantly affected by changing the general color rendering index (Ra) of its illumination. This effect has been studied by a number of researchers, but the cause of this effect has not been thoroughly studied. In order to clarify this, the mutual relations between visual clarity, lightness perception, and feeling of contrast are analyzed by using object colors under illuminations with various Ra values. the results obtained are as follows. (1) the visual clarity of a lighting environment is different from the lightness perception of the object colors in the environment. (2) the change in visual clarity of a lighting environment is highly correlated to a feeling of contrast between object colors under the illumination. (3) the effect of visual clarity is estimated effectively by assessing the feeling of contrast using a specially selected four‐color combination. (4) the illuminance for equal visual clarity for any illumination is predicted by the equality of feeling of contrast under the same illumination specified by the gamut area made by the component colors of the four‐color combination in a brightness and colorfulness space. (5) the effect of visual clarity under various illuminations cannot be predicted by using their Ra val

摘要:
AbstractThe term “alexandrite effect” is used in gemology to describe a distinct change of color appearance when a gemstone is switched from daylight to incandescent light. Gemstones that exhibit the alexandrite effect can actually be divided into four categories based upon the value of the calculated absolute hue‐angle change of the material under different pairs of illuminants. the alexandrite effect is a non‐color‐constancy phenomenon. It can be explained by a combination of both chromaticity adaptations to the different light sources, and vision system responses to the spectral distribution of the light emitted by alexandrite effect gemstones when they are illuminated alternatively by the different ligh

摘要:
AbstractColored stimuli appear to be brighter than an achromatic stimulus of the same luminance as the colored stimuli. We have studied this effect using similarity judgments in a triadic scaling task. Several instructions and stimulus configurations were used. the color sets contained colors at three luminance levels. When subjects are instructed to attend to brightness differences, the contribution of the brightness axis is strongly increased relative to the contribution of the color channels. Moreover, a correction to the color input is necessary when subjects are instructed to attend to brightness similarities between saturated colors. For a fixed adaptation level, the chromatic input is relatively stronger for the lower luminance levels. This correction is absent in all other investigated conditions. the correction found here confirms an earlier report by Fairchild and Pirotta (1991).

摘要:
AbstractThe relationship between some colors of cars and their image sensation are investigated by using the fuzzy set theory. The color image a person has of a car is quantified using the membership function. A computer program is constructed to calculate and analyze the similarity relations of various colors and further to arrange the corresponding membership functions of colors to one image word by size. The results show that the man‐machine matching in color image is mostly dominated by the hue. The orderly table can be suggested to the designer for what color should be used if he can input the demanded image word (or words) for specifying the characteristic of a car in the stage of concept design. In such a way, not only can the error of a design decision be reduced, but the efficiency of the decision making can also be improved. Thus, it is indeed a powerful and valuable method for designing a produc

摘要:
AbstractA new experimental technique for color appearance research is described. This technique, successive‐Ganzfeld haploscopic viewing, combines advantages of traditional haploscopic and successive‐haploscopic techniques with modifications that provide a more amenable viewing situation for the observer. This note reviews the need for haploscopic viewing techniques in color appearance research and the pros and cons of traditional techniques. and outlines the implementation of the new technique along with current and potential applicati

摘要:
AbstractBecause color has lost its permanent form in certain media such as computer displays, there is a need for some overriding organizational principle. In earlier work on orphics, this author has discussed some ideas and techniques for the fluid articulation of color in space and time without relying on a preferred color order. In this article the possibility of defining a sequence of colors arranged in a unique order, that is, general enough to serve as a tuning for the composition of color in space and time, is discussed. to gain as wide a perspective as possible, color vision theories and their relevance are discussed, as well as the structural compatibilities between color orders and the well‐tempered musical scale. Finally the works of two artists, Morgan Russell and Robert Delaunay, are examine
